Apple "Jubilee": description of the variety and the secrets of planting
Gardeners who want to get a good harvest of apples with minimal tree care will be ideally suited to the Jubilee variety.Delicious fruits have excellent product characteristics, unpretentious apple trees, have high winter hardiness and rich yield.
They are resistant to many diseases and withstand adverse weather conditions.
Description
The grade "Anniversary" is removed rather recently. In the course of the breeding work, fast-growing fruit trees of medium height were obtained, which is especially valuable when harvesting. Increased winter resistance, programmed at the gene level, provides the possibility of breeding "Jubilee" almost everywhere. In Russia, it is particularly popular in the northwestern and central parts.
It is grown and in small personal plots, and in large gardening farms. Thanks to the Vf gene, the plant is resistant to scab, maintaining this quality even under the most adverse weather conditions. This variety showed itself well when reacting to cancer and powdery mildew.
However, preventive measures and spring processing with chemicals give trees additional strength and resistance to adverse effects.
Crown
Trees have a moderately developed crown. Forming in breadth, it acquires a rounded shape, reaching 4 meters in diameter. The branches are free, the largest ones are slightly twisted and branch off from the trunk almost perpendicularly, without intersecting each other.
Fruit
Brilliant smooth greenish-yellow fruits have small brown-crimson dots and stripes. Medium sized apples have the shape of an expanding cone. The weight of an apple is about 130 g. The juicy texture of the fruit is average in density, it is very tender, fine-grained and crispy.
According to the taste characteristics, the "Hero of the Day" refers to sweet and sour dessert fruits. In their composition not less than 10.5% of sugar and 17.6 mg of ascorbic acid (based on 100 g of the fruit). In accordance with the five-point evaluation scale: the tasting qualities of "Yubilyar" are estimated at 4.2 points, and product characteristics - at 4.4 points.
When planting in groups, the yield is about 180 centners per hectare. Apples ripen in late summer: in good weather conditions this happens in the second half of August. They are intended for universal use. They are used both fresh and subjected to various processing methods: dried, boiled jams, jams, compotes, make wine.
For long-term storage, this variety is not suitable. Provided they are kept in refrigerators or basements, they are stored for about a month.
Subspecies
Breeders brought a dwarf variety of "Jubilee." Such trees reach 2.5 m and begin to bear fruit already for 2–3 years after planting. While maintaining the quality characteristics of the medium-growing variety, including a rich yield, taste and resistance to diseases, dwarf trees have a reduced winter hardiness.
Therefore, before the onset of frost, seedlings are recommended to be warmed with spruce leaves or other covering materials. In order to prevent freezing of roots, the near-wellbore halo is mulched with humus, peat, sawdust. Dwarf trees are widely spread in the suburbs.
Landing
For saplings of medium-sized rootstocks, planting is recommended in rows, while the distance between the seedlings should be not less than 3.5 m, with inter-row spacing up to 5 m. m
Planted seedlings in spring or autumn.
At the same time one should be especially attentive and not miss the optimally favorable period. In the last days of September and in early October, the tree enters the resting stage, and in this state the transplant stress will be less noticeable, and there will still be enough time to gain a foothold in the soil before frost comes.
When planting in the fall should not fertilize the plant with nitrogen, so as not to enhance its growth, violating the state of rest.When planting in spring, it is better to use the last days of March or the first days of April, when the buds have not yet awakened.
The dimensions of the landing pit should allow free placement of the roots, which should not be bent, especially long roots should be shortened. Planting well should be watered thoroughly, even in rainy weather. When planting seedlings can not be buried grafting sites and root neck. The garter of saplings to support will facilitate their fastening in soil. Feed the apple tree with humus, rotted manure, wood resin and mineral fertilizers. These nutrients are enough for two years.
Care
Agricultural machinery of fruit trees includes the following actions:
- watering;
- top dressing;
- weeding between the rows;
- pruning and crown formation;
- preventive treatment of harmful insects and diseases.
Resistance to many diseases allows the use of chemicals in small quantities. In the spring, it is recommended to spray twice with preparations containing copper. In the fight against insect pests such chemicals as Iskra, Topaz, and Chlorofos have proven themselves well. Dosage treatment should be carried out in accordance with the recommendations of the manufacturers of chemical preparations.
Feed the tree in early spring. During the autumn digging, you can make humus and rotted manure.
Pruning broken or weakly developing diseased branches is made after the foliage falls in late autumn. Pruning in the spring is required to complete before the onset of movement of the juice. The first crown formation should be carried out already in the first year of planting, and the seedling is cut to 80–90 cm from the ground.
Due to this, lateral shoots develop, they are also shortened in the subsequent season so that the next tier is 40-50 cm taller. When pruning, they retain the largest branches, and shoots growing inside the crown that is formed are cut off.
Important! For better yields, apple trees of other varieties that have the same flowering period should grow near the “Yubilyar”, since the “Hero of the Day” is self-productive.
Reviews
According to gardeners, the first harvest has to wait quite a long time - about 5 years, and a truly rich fruit harvest can be only after 7 years. Consumers positively note the taste of the fruit, their good preservation during transportation. Experienced growers who grow apples for production purposes are considered the most effective way of breeding "Jubilee" in intensive type orchards using dwarf rootstocks. The variety “Yubilyar” is appreciated for the simplicity of agricultural technology and rich harvest. The somewhat protracted period of onset of fructification is more than repaid by the subsequent excellent yield for many years.
