Apple tree "Venyaminovskoe": description of the variety, planting and care
Apple variety "Venyaminovskoe" isolated as an elite variety of fruit tree. The plant received this status in 1995.The difference in varieties is elementary care and good yield, for which he is valued in the circles of experienced gardeners.
Characteristic
Trees are characterized by large size. Fruit ovaries are formed on simple and complex annuli. The buds are cone-shaped, covered with a soft down. The leaves are ovate, have a dark green color and a twisted tip, small teeth along the edges. There are villus on the plate. For flowers characteristic saucer-shaped and white-pink tide. In one inflorescence, 4-5 flowers form more often.
Fruits differ in average size, they are asymmetric. Their weight usually reaches 130 grams, sometimes they have a conical shape. In 2011, fruits weighing 180-300 grams were registered in the Ryazan region. When harvesting the crop has a green color. After lying to the final ripeness, the color becomes greenish-yellow, a slightly crimson hue can be observed.
The pulp is dense, juicy, characterized by a sweet-sour taste, belongs to the dessert type, coarse-grain consistency. There are brown seeds.
Advantages and disadvantages
Among the advantages of the variety, the following deserve special attention.
- High winter hardiness. When the variety passed the test, at a temperature of -40 degrees the buds of the tree slightly damaged, in some places the crust was slightly destroyed. This means that the variety can be grown even in the northern regions of the country.
- Resistance to scab. This is one of the most common diseases of apple trees. The disease affects the shoots of leaves and fruits, leads to a deterioration in taste and loss of vitamins.
- Good taste. Apples are considered dessert, they are not fleshy and not dry, they are juicy and tasty fruits.
- The ability to transport and store for a long time. Despite the small size of apples, they still retain their marketable appearance for a long time under certain conditions.
A description of the variety would be incomplete if one does not take into account some of its shortcomings:
- requirement of regular watering;
- long period of fruit ripening;
- shedding yield;
- the need for constant pollination.
How to plant?
Due to the excellent frost resistance, it is possible to plant this variety both in spring and in autumn. But if the spring period is chosen for planting, then it is necessary to have time before the buds blossom. It is not necessary to choose areas protected from wind, but the soil must be prepared in advance. When preparing the land you need to follow the following rules.
- If planting is planned for spring, then the soil should be fertilized in the fall. If planting is carried out in the fall, then the land should be ready already ten days before the event.
- The soil must be freed from weeds and put 5-6 kg of manure or compost, about 400 g of wood ash and a large spoonful of nitroammophoska into it.
- It is important to ensure that the acidity of the earth is at least 6.0, and the groundwater flows at a distance not higher than 2-2.5 meters from the surface. The location of groundwater at a level of 1.5 meters is allowed, but only in the case when the bush is planted on dwarf rootstocks.
- It is better to avoid landing on ridges where water for a long time is concentrated after rain or melting snow.
- The most preferred types of soil for this variety are black soil, gray forest, sandy loam and loam.
When the soil is prepared and the time of planting has come, then follow the following stages of planting an apple tree:
- Dig pits deep into - 70-80 cm, in width - 1 meter;
- put a little bit of haydite or pebbles on each to arrange drainage;
- Put a bucket of humus and non-sour peat (1: 1) on top, supplemented with nitroammofoska and wood ash;
- fill the pit with 10 liters of warm water;
- plant a bush in such a way that the root branches are easily located in the pit and do not bend;
- if the roots of the seedling develop downwards, then it is possible to build a small hill in the pit and plant an escape from above so that the roots go down along the edges;
- it is necessary to plant a bush in accordance with the cardinal directions as it was planted in the nursery;
- bury the hole carefully;
- water a bush with a pair of buckets of water;
- seal around the ground and grumble with humus;
- tie up the escape to the support.
Ideally, the shoot should be placed on the ground so that its root neck is a couple of centimeters above the ground.
How to care?
Caring for an apple tree of this variety is not particularly different from the standard one. Observe the following rules.
Watering
It is important to water the bush during the period of active growth once every 2 weeks with water in the amount of 2-3 buckets. When the tree begins to bloom, use the following irrigation scheme: 1-2 buckets every 3 days. Another important stage in the development of a plant that needs watering is the period of formation of the ovary, at which time the fruits begin to brown a little. During this period, you need to water the apple tree every week for 2-3 buckets.
Soil loosening
It is recommended to carry out this procedure after each watering or rain. Especially loosening is important for two or three year old trees. Completely free the area from weeds is necessary for the first 3-4 years, then they are allowed to simply mow.
Feeding
Apple tree needs a three-fold feeding. The first is carried out in the spring, for this you can dissolve 1 large spoonful of nitroammophoska in water. The second time the tree is fed during the flowering period, for this purpose, 200-300 grams of wood ash are brought under the shrub. The third time an apple tree is nourished during the ripening of apples, the most common fertilizer is a mixture of phosphate and potash salt, each substance in a small spoon. The same top dressing can be used after harvesting.
Pruning
Thinning and sanitary pruning is carried out for trees that have already turned 3 years old. The procedure is carried out in March every 2-3 years. Pruning exposed and broken shoots, thin specimens, branches growing deep in the crown. It is recommended to smear each cut with a garden pitch.
Installation of trapping belts
Gardeners are advised to equip trappers belt in early May. Sticky belts with poison will help protect the tree from insect pests.
In the autumn, the tree is required to cover the plastic mesh or bag that will protect it from rodents.
Pollinators
Variety refers to species with partial self-fertility. Only 8% of flowers are able to form during self-pollination. Therefore, agronomists advise to resort to using other varieties. Especially effective for this purpose are "Miron Sugar", "Sharopay", "Arcade Summer".
Harvesting and storage
The collection is carried out from mid to late September, but the exact period is determined by the country's climate region. For example, in Ryazan, cleaning is possible from September 10, and in the Oryol region a week later. It is important not to delay the harvesting, as the fruits will begin to crumble, their skin will collapse, such an apple is no longer suitable for storage. Good fruits are stored in areas where refrigerators are installed. In such conditions, apples are able to lie even until March.
But it is important to prevent over-ripening, otherwise the commodity qualities of the fruit are lost. Usually, good ripeness apples reach a month after storage, but in particularly warm and wet years, maximum maturity is possible already during the harvest period.
However, in the latter case, it should be remembered that in the commodity state such copies can be stored for a month less.
Reviews
For the most part, the reviews of gardeners who decided to plant an apple tree of the presented variety are positive. There is a great taste of fruits and the ability to store them for a long time. Some gardeners did not expect that the winter variety could produce such sweet fruits — usually sour apples are typical of such varieties. The agronomists are also satisfied with the harvest, but still they came to the conclusion that it is better to grow the branches horizontal - then the harvest will be even greater. Of the minuses there is a partial shedding of the fruit, if the harvest is not timely removed.
Consumers like apples for their versatility.They have excellent taste, therefore, suitable for fresh consumption. The taste and structure of the pulp allow you to make juice, fruit compote, jam, jam, jelly, mashed potatoes, these apples can be dried and make apple chips. Speaking about the characteristics of the variety, everyone agrees that the fruits form a pleasant apple flavor during storage.
