Apple "Solntsedar": a description of the fruits and fineness of planting
The apple tree "Solntsedar" was developed for cultivation in the Urals, but can also be successfully grown in the southern regions of our country. The fruits of this tree have no comparable specific taste, which is impossible to forget.In its superior characteristics, this summer variety is not inferior to the best European breeding models. Knowing the intricacies of planting and caring for a crop, one can get high and stable yields annually.
Features of the variety
"Solntsedar" is a summer crop that is resistant to frost, while it is characterized by high fruiting. An adult tree can reach 3-4 meters in height, has a rounded, dense and sufficiently dense crown, which as it grows, lowers its branches to the surface of the earth. The bark of the tree is red-brown in color, it is darker in young shoots. New branches are usually thin and flexible. The leaves have an ovoid shape with pointed tips; they are distinguished by a rich green color and a brilliant, casting blue, as if polished surface. They are dense, pubescent on the inside, decorated at the edges with small indents.
Unfortunately, one of the drawbacks is the self-barrenness of this apple tree, which will require the gardener to plant in the immediate vicinity of such varieties as “White filling”, “Suislepskoe”, and “Wine”. As a result of cross-pollination, flowers appear in late May. In the spring, the pink and white buds of the plant are a delightful sight, literally completely covering the crown of the tree.
Fruits - the main advantage of culture, they differ in the following characteristics:
- apples have a regular round or wide-oval shape, occasionally complemented by a barely perceptible facet;
- the main background of the surface is pale, pale green with a bright pink blush at full ripeness;
- the weight of individual fruits ranges from 100 to 150 grams;
- the pulp of apples is white, juicy and tender, lies in a dry, smooth peel;
- sweet taste is complemented by a weak acidity, giving the fruit an original astringency.
Fully apples ripen in August, but can quickly crumble. The harvest is obtained from the tree of the seventh year and up to 25 years, the whole life span of the tree is 35 years. Up to 100 kg of fruit can be harvested from one apple tree, which lasts about 60 days under standard storage conditions. Fruits are valuable to humans because they contain large amounts of fructose and ascorbic acid.
You can use them in different versions - fresh, baked, in the form of blanks.
Advantages and disadvantages
The description of this variety has a number of positive characteristics that distinguish it favorably from other summer crops.
These include:
- beautiful appearance and wonderful taste of the fruit;
- large yields, characterized by stability;
- relatively compact dimensions of the tree;
- easy care;
- unpretentiousness under the influence of different weather conditions;
- immunity to low temperatures (withstands temperatures up to 25 degrees);
- early ripening of fruits;
- preservation of shape and taste during transportation and storage.
Considering the shortcomings of the "Solntserad", it should be noted:
- susceptibility to diseases, scab and fungi;
- shedding during ripening;
- self-infertility, due to which pollinator plants are required;
- dense crown, which must be formed twice a year.
Reviews of apple "Solntsedar" rather contradictory. It is noted that with excellent taste and a bountiful harvest, the plant has not very good keeping quality. In fact, the fruits are able to maintain their valuable qualities only for a period limited to one and a half months. Another problem is that ripe apples do not hold well on the branches, and when they fall, they are badly damaged, after which they quickly begin to rot, becoming unsuitable for eating.
Seasoned farmers warn lovers that this variety can bear fruit every year. Sometimes there are breaks in the appearance of fruit buds for a year, which, of course, is great frustrating. Also, many complain that the apple tree gives small apples weighing no more than 100 grams.
As for frost resistance - it is true that the tree really tolerates cold very well.
Disembarking
Planting a tree has its own characteristics, and in this important matter should follow the advice of experienced farmers.
First you need to decide on the location of the tree:
- the place for the seedling should be sunny, on a hill, so that the rays reach the crown of the plant around the entire circumference;
- It is not recommended to plant in lowlands, especially in wetlands where cold and high humidity can cause apple disease;
- "Solntsedar" does not like drafts and strong winds;
- for planting suitable location of deep soil waters.
The best time for planting is the end of March-mid-April, but the hole for the apple must be prepared in advance. If the soil is too clayy, humus and coarse sand are added to the soil; you can additionally mix special means for accelerated root formation or mineral complexes, depending on the fertility of the soil.
Works are carried out in the following order:
- digging a hole with a depth of at least 70 centimeters, the land from it is divided into two parts;
- three buckets of water are poured into the ditch until completely absorbed;
- Peat, humus, sand and not more than 30 grams of "Superphosphate" are added to the pit, carefully mixing all the components with the lower layer of earth;
- the seedling is preliminarily placed in water, and immediately before planting the root system is dipped in a thick consistency of clay solution;
- when placed in the hole, the roots are evenly distributed over the entire space of the moat;
- You can use the support for a small sapling, tying it to a peg;
- when lowering into the ground, the root neck should remain 3-4 centimeters above the surface;
- Finally, the plant is watered abundantly, but the ground is not tamped too tightly.
If several apple trees are planted, a distance of 4-5 meters is observed between them due to the spreading of trees.
If desired, produce mulching pristvolnogo zone.
Care
Features care are periodic pruning of apple trees. If this is not done, then due to the intensive growth of the branches and the green mass, the fruiting is suspended. Thinning is carried out in late autumn or early spring when the active juice-cutting of the apple tree begins, and it is necessary to remove not only damaged and dry old branches, but also shorten young shoots. Other agricultural work is also needed in order for the plant to produce a good harvest.
Feeding culture should be carried out up to 4 times per season. Organic fertilizers and nitrogen supplements are required in the spring. After the appearance of flowers, mineral complexes containing phosphorus and potassium are used. Microelements such as zinc, calcium and magnesium are important for normal fruit set. However, it should be remembered that more than twice a month fertilizer can not be applied.
Diseases and pests, if not paid attention to the control of them, can disrupt the normal growth and development of the fruit. Mostly apple is prone to fruit rot, powdery mildew and scab. To prevent diseases, the tree is treated with copper sulfate solution, Bordeaux mixture and other fungicides. To prevent insects from entering the plant, they use lime or special garden paint, which, in addition to protection from spider mites, aphids and caterpillars, protects the tree from sunburn and rodents.
Metal mesh helps prevent the attack on the apple tree flock birds.
Watering is especially important for the plant for the first two years and is made once every 30 days in the amount of two buckets. The exception is hot weather. Watering should be around the perimeter of the root system. At the same time carry out the removal of weeds and loosening the soil. For winter, adult trees do not harbor. This procedure is carried out only with young, weak apple trees, as a rule, recently planted.
Because of the strong shedding, the fruits need to be collected very quickly. Gardeners are beginning to take even unripe apples, which already ripen within three days at the usual temperature for placing. But fruits that have fallen to the ground are not recommended.Despite such disadvantages as susceptibility to diseases and a short shelf life, the apple tree "Solntsedar" remains one of the best summer varieties due to its unique taste and high yield.
