 Apple tree Antey: characteristics of the variety, planting and care

"Antey" is a valuable winter variety of apples, bred by Belarusian breeders. The culture is characterized by large, tasty fruits with elastic dense skin and juicy pulp.A feature of the plant is its excellent keeping quality, so that the harvest for a long time can remain in excellent condition, while maintaining freshness and beneficial properties.

Description

For the cultivation of apple trees, cuttings of such fruit trees as “Babushkino” and “Newtosh” were used. Later, the resulting hybrid was crossed with the Belarusian Raspberry. As a result of severe tests with low temperatures and the lack of the most necessary care measures, the hardened apple was recognized as a valuable crop with excellent yield and frost resistance. Do not let her and great taste. Today it is one of the best winter varieties, appreciated by gardeners. It is not surprising that many have the desire to plant this tree in their area.

The main characteristics of this variety:

  • the tree is considered medium tall, reaching a height of about 2.5 meters;
  • the above-ground part of the plant has a rounded pyramidal shape with characteristic, well-defined tiers;
  • due to the fact that young branches with active growth do not make the crown too thick, pruning in order to form and prevent growth does not constitute special difficulties;
  • branches of the plant, depending on the thickness, have a light or dark brown color, round or faceted form in cross section;
  • the leaves are large, oval, rounded at the base and pointed at the ends, the edges are “decorated” with round cloves.

The apple tree is characterized by a ringed fruit bearing, the first apples can already be harvested in the second or third year. Interestingly, the buds of the fruits of this variety are laid every season, so even in bad years, "Antey" continues to consistently delight good harvests. And, of course, the main advantage of the variety is large, rounded-conical fruits with a light cut of deep carmine-red color on the main green and yellowish background. The dense skin in some cases has a wax gray-bluish outflow. The flesh is strong, juicy, pale green, contains large dark brown seeds.

Apples are distinguished by a delicate pleasant smell and a sweet taste with a slight sourness. Fruit weight reaches 200 grams and more, you can collect them from mid-September until the end of October. But they gain full maturity already during storage, and they are able to remain fresh until the end of next spring, 6-7 months. Use apples can be fresh or processed in any way. Active fruiting continues from the fifth year of the plant's life to its twenty-fifth, an average apple tree lives about 30 years.

The advantages and disadvantages of culture

In the process of selection, the tree was adapted to different climatic conditions, it does not need additional adaptation. The main positive points in its cultivation include the following.

  • High yield. One adult plant can produce about 50 kg of apples per season.
  • Frost resistance - one of the amazing properties of wood, because it can withstand temperatures up to -30 degrees. Moreover, it does not have negative consequences for its viability and further fruiting.
  • Culture is not afraid of high humidity, quietly tolerates frosts, so frequent in the springtime.
  • Buds plants for the reason that appear in the summer, not exposed to hazardous external influences.
  • Variety can be grown in areas with different weather and climatic conditions.
  • The undoubted advantage is the fruit, tasty and containing a lot of nutrients, polysaccharides and vitamins. In addition, they are well stored and are not damaged during transportation due to the dense skin and hard pulp.

If unpretentiousness is the main advantage of a hybrid, then its disadvantage can be considered the average immunity to various types of pests and fungal diseases, in particular, to scab. In addition, "Antey" is a self-fruitless tree and needs cross-pollination.If you plant a number of winter crops, hybrids may be insufficient. For yields to be stable and large, apple trees need “neighbors” of autumn varieties, such as “Pepin saffron”, “Autumn striped”, “Welsey” or “Anis”. But also some summer ones will do - “Summer”, “Golden Summer”, “Yandykovsky”.

Correct fit

The best time to plant an apple tree is autumn. After the leaves fall, the saplings have a few weeks before the first frost to settle down and strengthen the root system. In spring, this process is also possible, but due to the fact that the development of the tree will be directed to the growth of the aboveground part, the roots will be weak, which, as a result, will affect the growth and fruiting of the plant as a whole. It is important to carefully select a landing site. It should be well lit with no nearby groundwater.

It is good if the soil contains chernozem, peat and a small amount of sand. Too acidic soil should be neutralized with wood ash, lime or dolomite flour.

You also need to take into account that this class is not suitable placement:

  • on too open squares, where in summer the tree will always be in the sun;
  • in low places and ravines with high humidity;
  • in the corners, near the premises on the north side, where drafts and strong cold winds are possible.

When planting in the autumn, a pit is prepared a month before planting, and if the crop is planted in the spring, a place for it should be prepared in the autumn. The dimensions of the pit are 70 cm deep and 90 cm wide. A special soil substrate is made of equal parts of compost, turf, humus and peat. At the bottom, drainage in the form of expanded clay is placed, and on top - a third of the soil mixture. From above it is possible to cover the pit with dense cellophane and leave until the landing.

The landing process is as follows.

  • The roots of the plant are not dried, but kept wet, before being placed in the ground for 10-12 hours, they are dipped in water.
  • Dry, lifeless and damaged branches are pruned. The root system is treated with a medical chatter, prepared from diluted clay and manure.
  • Having located a sapling in a hole, carefully straighten its roots.
  • After falling asleep with the remaining substrate, the earth around the plant is compacted and more land is filled. It will be needed when the subsidence begins, you cannot trample it heavily.
  • In order to fill the voids between the roots, the tree should be shaken several times, holding it by the trunk.
  • Water with ordinary water, adding funds for intensive rooting.
  • At the end of the earth sprinkled more.

Immediately after that, to help a young tree, you can tie it to a dug wooden peg. The important point is the location of the root collar 4-5 cm above the soil surface.

If several apple trees are planted, they should be at a distance of one and a half meters from each other, while between rows you should keep intervals of 4 meters.

How to care

There are no specific requirements for the main agrotechnical work with regard to the variety “Antey”, but for good fruiting, all types of work must be carried out in a timely manner.

The main points of care are as follows.

  • After planting, seedlings are watered quite often, especially in dry weather. In the spring, the first watering is carried out 15-20 days before the appearance of buds, and the second after blooming. It is also important to water the apple tree when forming the ovaries and their growth. During the dry period, the plant additionally needs water. On average, one tree can leave from 2 to 10 buckets, the most fluid required by adult cultures.
  • After watering, weeding and loosening the soil, as well as mulching with straw, cardboard and other materials that prevent the growth of weeds and the rapid evaporation of moisture, are mandatory. This is done with an indentation of 15 cm from the trunk in order to prevent the penetration of pathogens into the root system.
  • Feeding is done three times per season.After flowering, fertilizers based on nitrogen and phosphorus are introduced into the soil. During the formation of the apple fruit, manure and complex mineral supplements are needed, and they are added after the harvest has been harvested.
  • In spring they cut the plant, removing broken and diseased branches, form a crown, paying special attention to its inside.
  • Preparing for the winter period is to protect the mulch of young, not yet fully rooted plants. To do this, use compost or fallen leaves. Also dense material cover the trunk and branches. To protect the culture from rodents, apply spruce or small-mesh net.
  • Sanitation from aphids, moth and other pests is carried out with special preparations - Ditoxom, Binom. Processing carried out in early spring. To save the tree from diseases, spray it with a solution of copper sulphate, diluting 50 g of the drug in 1 liter of water.

You should not use aggressive chemicals if there are only a few lesions. This is done only during mass attacks of insects and microorganisms.

Positive feedback on the apple "Antey" is not exaggerated, it is a beautiful and unpretentious variety that can disappoint with the harvest only in the case of the complete absence of basic care. This is a promising culture that is widely used not only for personal needs, but also for commercial purposes.
