How to feed Victoria and how to do it?
Victoria (aka strawberry) is a beloved berry with a rich and sweet taste.In its composition there are many beneficial components, such as vitamin C or folic acid. If you want a fragrant and healthy berry to grow on your plot, then you will need to provide her with appropriate care. Today we will talk about how and by what means is feeding Victoria.
Terms of application
Before proceeding to Victoria's top dressing, you should prepare the plant for future procedures with high quality. Soil and bushes around plantings need to be treated immediately after the snow melts and the soil is completely dry. At the same time, trimming the whiskers is required, as well as cleaning all the yellowed leaves. The latter should be done manually - it is better to abandon the use of the rake. If the bush has damaged parts, they will need to be removed. Only after that you can take a rake and clear the necessary place by them.
When all the bushes are cleaned in the spring season, they are treated for various diseases to which the culture is exposed. Usually for this purpose, iodine diluted in water, potassium permanganate and boric acid are used. And now let's take a closer look at what seasons Victoria's feeding is usually held.
In the spring
With the onset of spring, the first feeding is carried out until the formation of buds. To start, you need a standard care - you need to clean the foliage, as well as remove already dried shoots. For the first time it is recommended to fertilize strawberries with a rather saturated mullein (manure) harvested from fresh raw materials. This fertilizer is prepared in this way:
- in a bucket you need to collect 1 liter of water, and then dilute the fermented mullein in it;
- if you do not apply to the mullein, then the first top dressing is permissible to be carried out with urea - for this purpose, 2 spoons of this mineral product are diluted in a bucket of water, and then all the bushes are watered at 0.5 liters;
- Victoria's fertilizer should be carried out after the rain, when the earth is still wet (in such conditions, mullein will be absorbed much faster, and on dry ground it usually just spreads).
Of course, there are many different types of fertilizer, however, mullein is the most popular. This natural remedy is addressed by many summer residents. Manure contains a large percentage of phosphorus and nitrogen. The latter component has a positive effect on the growth and development of planting, and phosphorus allows the ovaries to be actively formed. There are several basic rules for the care of Victoria in the spring.
- Primary feeding is very often carried out at the very beginning of spring with the use of a special preparation called "Horus" (at the rate of 12 g per bucket of water). In a fortnight it is required to carry out one more treatment from characteristic diseases.
- In order to prevent Victoria's illnesses, as well as to avoid the appearance of stains on them, they often turn to the Topaz product - they will need 6 ml of product for a bucket of water.
- You can use the foliar application, which is called "Plantafol" at the rate of 20 g per 10 l. water. Means similar to Brexil Mix or Megafol have a similar effect.
- In order to form the ovary more actively, it is permissible to apply the Boroplus agent and add it in 10-15 ml each.
For spring dressing also use such effective means:
- iodine;
- boric acid;
- yeast;
- ash.
Some gardeners prefer to use the available tools that can be found in any pharmacy. These options include ammonia, which not only has a positive effect on the development of the plant, but also deters various parasites from it due to its characteristic odor.
Summer
Phosphorus and potassium - these are the components that Victoria especially needs in the summer, during the period of its active fruiting. For this, it is permissible to put into practice various solutions, for example, ash, which is highly efficient. If you put the ash in the spring, and it is almost over, you should turn to mineral types of fertilizers.Experts and experienced gardeners advise to apply to specialized mixtures, which are designed specifically for berries.
Simple universal fertilizers for vegetables and flowers are not suitable, because in their content there is an insufficient amount of trace elements. It is better to turn to more effective potassium nitrate. To do this, you will need to take 1 teaspoon of granules and dilute them in 10 liters of water. In the summer, it is also permissible to use boric acid, due to which the plant will produce even more inflorescences - here you need to take 1 teaspoon per bucket of water.
If in the summer rainy weather persists for a long time, and the sun is rarely shown, then the landing may be affected by fungus. To avoid such troubles, one should mulch the land between the rows, as well as under the berry bushes themselves. For this reason, the fruits may be slightly dry, but the fungus from the soil they will not be afraid.
It is important not to forget that during the fruiting period, it is impossible to use various chemicals for pests in any case. Plants can be sprayed only in advance as a preventive measure.
We must not forget that in the summer of Victoria just enough watering is necessary, because during this period the berries are gaining their weight. Nutrients must be dissolved in water and flow directly to the fruit.
If there is not enough water, then top dressing will not be digested as it should. As a result, the berries will not be very tasty, and their sweetness will be replaced by acid. If in summer the weather is clear without rains, then strawberries should be watered about 3-4 times a week. It is necessary that the soil is moistened to a depth of 10-12 cm.
In the autumn
Many gardeners are wondering how best to feed Victoria, so she gave a rich harvest and the following year. Before moving on to the autumn planting care procedures, you need to think about how long the berry grows in one place. If for 3 years, then it is better to transplant. Otherwise, the fruits will grow small, and yields will gradually decline.
In the autumn period, phosphate fertilizers are most often added. The element is bound by the earth in such a way that it remains in it until the next spring. A good solution in this case will be such an addition as superphosphate. It is possible to add it to the soil in a dry state, having prepared the furrows around the bush, or diluted with water and pour out the excavations, and then cover it with earth. The process of dissolution of superphosphate occurs during the day, so this tool is pre-soaked and occasionally stirred, and then transferred to watering.
Potassium will be needed in order the bush to survive the winter comfortably without negative consequences. Potash supplements for strawberries are permissible to add in September. If for this purpose we turn to natural wood ash, then at the same time we will be able to achieve both loose soil and reduce its acidity.
But you can not make nitrogen closer to winter, because it activates the growth of green mass. For this reason, the plant may simply die in the cold. In winter, Victoria bushes should be mulched and wrapped with plastic wrap.
What kind of fertilizer does strawberries require?
For feeding Victoria use different means. Let's get acquainted with the most popular ones.
- Urea. This is a top dressing in which there is a large percentage of nitrogen. In addition, its composition contains components such as hydrogen, oxygen and carbon. Urea must be applied directly to the ground or used as a mixture, because when it comes into contact with air, it simply dissolves, turning into ammonia.
- Ammonium nitrate. This salt of nitric acid, in which there is 35% nitrogen. Ammonium nitrate makes the soil more "acidic", so it should be combined with a special dolomite flour.
- Nitroammofosk. Complex fertilizer in which there are potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen.This remedy can be treated in the spring only if in the fall potassium salt or superphosphate was added to the soil.
- Mullein. Some of the properties of mullein (manure) mentioned above. It is a highly efficient nitrogen fertilizer.
- Bird droppings. This is an effective organic fertilizer, in which there is a very large content of useful trace elements. In the litter there is phosphorus, nitrogen, potassium and other necessary components.
- Humus. This fertilizer is a former waste of different origin. The simple manure, which has lain down for about 1-2 years, can also be referred to as hardening.
- Wood ash. This popular fertilizer is pointless to add in the spring without the use of nitrogen fertilizer. Wood ash contains all the elements required by Victoria, only nitrogen is missing. If you add both ash and nitrogen-containing agents at a time, this can lead to undesirable reactions, because ash is alkali, and nitrogen in combination with it turns into rapidly evaporating ammonia.
- Yeast. Some gardeners use proven tools and feed the Victoria yeast, which are involved in the rapid decomposition of organic matter in the ground. Adding these components is only in warm soil, as the optimum temperature for their decomposition is +20 degrees. In the process of yeast fermentation, the soil loses a lot of potassium and calcium, therefore, ash fertilizer should be used immediately after processing with such means.
- Nettle. A good top dressing for Victoria is a nettle tincture. Thanks to this tool, the yield of Victoria increases significantly, and the berries grow larger.
- Ammonia. This tool can be found in any pharmacy. Ammonia is a very effective substance, because it contains a nitrogen compound, ammonia.
- Iodine. Many gardeners feed Victoria iodine. You can use an alcohol-based composition, which not only prevents many plant diseases, but also acts as a nitrogen catalyst.
How to feed?
Plants planted last year, you can not fertilize after the winter, if they were planted with the introduction of a sufficient amount of fertilizing. If during such procedures there are doubts, then it is worth referring to the appropriate means. For example, it is possible to add chicken droppings or sodium sulfate. Fertilizers are stacked directly on the ground, cleared of debris. If Victoria is an “adult”, then she will need regular feeding, because over the years the land is not getting richer. Of course, you can not do this, but then you should not expect that there will be more juicy and fragrant berries. Otherwise, you will need to carry out such work:
- 1 feeding - during the period when the first 2-3 leaves will break through;
- 2 feeding - in the course of fruit set.
Usually fertilizers are added according to this scheme:
- in early spring, debris and leaves are removed from the beds, and then all plantings are watered with liquid fertilizer;
- during budding, planting is fertilized 2 times with a weekly pause;
- from July to August, after harvesting, it will be necessary to remove the old leaves and fertilize the planting again;
- In September, additional fertilizing will be needed to prepare for the winter.
During flowering, the plant will need a good feeding. At this time, the berries are particularly lacking potassium. During the fruiting period, it is permissible to feed Victoria by universal means, for example, with manure. At the end of the harvest you need to break through the ground, water and fertilize the planted bushes.
Tips
Use the advice of experienced gardeners to get a rich harvest of strawberries.
- Victoria always needs to be treated from various pests. This is allowed only after picking the berries and before the next flowering.
- Tidy up the ground before using organic supplements. In this case, you can refer to the active microorganisms.
- Do not plant strawberry seedlings with foliage - it will drain the planting. Leave only the 2 earliest leaflets.
If for a long time only organic materials are used, then it is better not to resort to chemical means.
