Description and growing varieties of cherries "Zhukovskaya"
Tasty and sweet cherries like a huge number of people. That is why you should pay attention to each type of plant.Only under this condition, the long-term work of breeders will give attractive results in a particular garden, and not be wasted.
Description
Cherry "Zhukovskaya" enjoys almost the highest popularity among table types. Farmers appreciate it for a decent harvest and minimal labor intensity. What is important, it is also possible to reduce the amount of time spent. “Zhukovskaya” is very good in baby food and on the table are discerning connoisseurs of taste. She also finds wide application in dessert diet and in winter blanks.
It is difficult to call the plants of this variety quite new; they were officially introduced to the culture in 1947. Zhukovskaya cherry is zoned for the center of Russia, the center of the Black Soil Region. It is safe to plant it on the Lower and Middle Volga. Culture features are:
- medium height (up to 300 cm);
- round powerful crown;
- red with a brownish tinge of bark;
- small buds with sharp edges and zero pubescence;
- dark greenish leaves, distinguished by its length and slightly jagged along the entire perimeter;
- sheet plate, similar to the "boat";
- long but moderately thick stalks of purple color;
- the predominant formation of the harvest on the bouquet branches (only a small fraction of it falls on last year’s growth).
The inflorescence has 5 large white flowers with a greenish conical cup. The fruiting period can reach one and a half decades, the tree itself will stand as long (sometimes up to 20 years). The mass of a single berry can vary from 4 to 7 g, in configuration, they are close to an oval. At the base of the fruit is more round, but the upper part is pulled out. For peel, juice and pulp is characterized by a uniform burgundy color with a dark sheen.
The size of the bone is impressive, the soft part is saturated with juice and dense. By taste, fruits cause associations with cherries. "Zhukovskaya" cherry is capable of giving 30 kg of berries per tree, and even a ripe crop will not be sprinkled on the ground just like that. It is very easy to separate the solid core from the succulent mass, the plant is immune to coccomycosis and ring spots. It should be borne in mind that in winter it is likely that damage to flower buds and the wood itself, there have been several instances when the tree is completely dead.
Also, it is necessary to use pollinators, as the plant is self-productive, and without support it will give only beautiful shoots without a crop.
The sugar concentration in the “Zhukovskaya” cherry is 9.4%. Wait for the harvest will have 4 years. When a tree lives for 10 years, more than 12 kg of fruit can be removed from it. The largest possible collection can reach 30 kg. Recommended neighbors - linden, maple. Berry bushes are suitable for mountain ash and bird cherry, it is also a good idea to use cereals and legumes.
They also serve as excellent indicators, since they allow us to assess whether a cherry will be good at a particular place. Annual seedlings should have a height of 0.8 m, and two-year-olds - 1.1 m. Planting scheme for spring cultivation of cherries is as follows:
- 0.6 m deep;
- 0.8 m wide;
- distance from one pit to another - 3 m.
Landing
If you have the opportunity to choose where to plant "Zhukovskaya" It is worth bringing it closer to planting such varieties as:
- "Black Consumer Goods";
- "Vladimirskaya";
- "Youth";
- "Apukhtinskaya".
Not bad as "Ostheim Gryot" and "Lubskaya" culture. It is very good to make sure that there are always 3-4 different trees on the plot. Recommended planting this cherry in the second month of spring. Autumn (September or early October) planting is allowed only in the southern territories. But in the whole middle band, spring cultivation is much preferable, because only it gives a solid guarantee of strengthening until the cold weather.
Choosing a plot, focus on:
- sandy or black soil;
- neutral acidity level;
- dry ground;
- guaranteed coverage.
Shadow, cold drafts, sour earth are reflected very badly. Negative impact and any flooding as rainwater and underground horizons.Lowland areas are not recommended.
Cherry seedlings must be carefully selected, discarding the use of damaged specimens. You should also abandon the use of planting material with ulcers or growths.
It is necessary to touch the seedlings, because wrinkled and rough are not suitable. The best result is given by plants aged 1-2 years, which have grown to 100-120 cm. The minimum length of roots for planting is 200 mm. The autumn selection of ready seedlings is much more than at the end of winter and spring. For the winter period, trees need to be buried in a shaded place, using a 300 mm deep pit.
Cherry is required to be positioned under the slope, filling the root complex with earth along with some part of the stem. There is no particular difference from planting other fruit trees. It is recommended to use a wooden stake for support. The problematic parts of the roots are required to be cut before planting, during the planting itself (finally) the trunk is set vertically. The soil surrounding the cherry requires a little compaction, making a kind of shaft with a radius of 0.3 m.
Care
Watering cherries "Zhukovskaya" is made 4 times during the vegetative season. First, it is carried out at the time of flowering. Then water is added:
- when berries will form;
- when the foliage falls;
- at the end of autumn (but not later than October 20).
It is possible to recommend both drip irrigation and moistening along the furrows. Good result gives the addition of water on the outer boundary of the crown. All irrigations involve the use of 40-50 liters of fluid. Only for the last time and with water recharge irrigation use 70 liters. Water is often poured into the grooves, they are dug two (0.5 and 1 m from the trunk).
After the final absorption of water, the soil is mulched with organic matter. This is not only humus, but also peat, sawdust, even straw. If the choice is made in favor of drip irrigation, you need to lay the tape around the trunks in the form of a spiral. The gap from coarse to fine diameter is 0.3 m. The same distance applies to the normal step of the dropper.
When water is absorbed, the radius around the trunk is loosened by 0.1 m or a little more. In late September, the depth of loosening increases to 150-200 mm. Be sure to clean the area around the cherry from weeds. Even if all the other requirements are met, but the weeds remain in place, the cherry becomes less quality, the harvest decreases. With strict compliance with the requirements for planting, you can not feed the plant in the first and second summer.
In the third year after planting, it is time for fertilizer. They are used in the spring twice: in the midst of flowering and immediately after its completion. When a cherry is in bloom, it should be fed with a saltpeter solution or a solution of hydrated lime. Both mixtures are prepared in a concentration of 2%. As soon as flowering ends, apply 30 l of a solution of nitroammofoski, which is diluted in a ratio of 1: 200.
In the last part of June, fertilizing is carried out outside the roots using magnesium sulphate. It is diluted with water 50 times. When September comes to an end, the cherry is fed with a mixture:
- granules of superphosphate (40 g);
- potassium chloride (20 g);
- 10 liters of water for dilution (this solution is used in terms of 1 square meter of tree trunks).
When it is time to dig the soil, inject 0.12-0.15 kg of wood ash per 1 square meter. For each plant, add 10 kg of dung. Trimming the trunk is from March 1 to April 15, and in the period from the completion of leaf fall to the onset of cold weather. Two-year cherries should be created 0.4 m above the surface. The increment above this line is required to be deleted.
Starting from the second season, it is required to destroy the skeletal shoots from the point at which the development of the lateral shoots stopped. On the ring remove striving down and inside the branches, which excessively thicken the crown. The central conductor is required to be limited to a height of 300-350 cm. As for the autumn pruning, it is carried out to solve sanitary and preventive tasks.At the same time they get rid of every sick and dried up escape.
Nitrogen fertilizing in the first year of development is not recommended, it is better to postpone it until the next season. Improving heavy, clay-rich earth can be achieved by adding sand.
Although Zhukovskaya is considered to be resistant to dry moments, increased watering is sometimes required. Mostly this moment comes in May and early summer, when the ovary grows intensively.
Recommendations for growing
In order to “Zhukovskaya” cherry not suffer from moniliosis, in the spring twice (with an interval of a week) it is sprayed with “Horus”. It is advisable, judging by the reviews, to plant a plant in sunny warm areas, better - near the house or garage. We must not forget that for full development each tree will need to take a certain place, at least 3 m. Choosing seedlings, it is necessary to give preference to those grown in nurseries under conditions close to growth in a particular plot.
Spraying of pesticides is allowed only next to mature trees. Already at the time of planting the sapling is shortened by 1/3. The time of formation of the top comes in the fifth year of cherry development. It is not recommended to remove a lot of branches at one time, this can lead to gum flow. It is much more correct to distribute pruning into several phases.
Collection and storage
"Zhukovskaya" cherry, like other mid-season varieties, reaches maturity by half of July, but it is also important which plants are located in the most lighted areas. If it is reliably known that the crop will have to be transported, it should be removed for 2-3 days before the final maturation. But this process cannot be forced, because cherries do not ripen autonomously, like tomatoes. It is best to choose a dry moment in the morning. In this case, the dew should evaporate, it is also undesirable to collect cherries in the fog.
In the last 14-20 days before harvesting, the trees stop watering. This is very important for long-term storage of fruits. The picking itself can be done using pruners, sometimes the berries are also cut off (with or without a handle). Leave the stalk more laborious, but thanks to him you can keep the harvest more time. Almost never manage to do without stairs, which should be prepared in advance and carefully checked.
Most gardeners recommend putting cherry in glass jars and put in cool places. After a thorough wash, clean the leaves of the cherry itself on the bottom of the jar. Then the berries alternate with the same layers again. To close the container, a polyethylene cover is mainly used.
In the refrigerator, you can keep ripe fruits up to 14 days, and if the temperature is 0 degrees, and humidity - 80-85%, you can double this period.
