Kesha grapes: description and cultivation process

 Kesh grapes: description and cultivation process

Grapes are quite popular crops that are grown in many garden plots.In some cases, it is a decorative component, but is most often used as a tasty and healthy delicacy. A plant that combines these two purposes is the variety “Kesha”, whose taste and characteristics deserve special attention.

Special features

Today, garden and garden plants, which were not subject to selection, are rare. Bringing improved and more resistant hybrids is a fairly important job. It is of great importance for regions with a harsh climate, where the cultivation of various crops due to climatic conditions is not possible. This also applies to grapes, because the plant is a southern and heat-loving culture.

For the regions of Russia and other countries belonging to the zone of risky farming, various grape varieties, including “Kesha”, were bred. This plant is one of the best achievements of Russian breeders, as it stands out for good yields and minimum requirements for agricultural technology.

According to the description of the culture, it must be attributed to the table grapes of medium early ripening. The plant was obtained by crossing the vine "Delight" and "Frumoas Albe". Thanks to professionally carried out work, “Kesha” adopted only positive properties from mother plants, such as high yield, quick adaptation to climatic conditions, immunity to many diseases and other important qualities.

The growing season varies from 120-130 days, depending on the growing region and the weather in the region. As a rule, the berries reach a state of technical ripeness by the end of August.

Shrubs plants stand out for their tall, so they can reach a length of about 6 meters. Grapes bloom with bisexual flowers, so it does not need additional pollination. Brushes are allocated with the big sizes, grow in the form of a cone or the cylinder placed on the extended leg. On average, the mass of one bunch is from 500 grams to a kilogram.

Fruit variety is distinguished by yield, which reaches 80%. However, an important condition for proper ripening of berries is the timely normalization of the bushes. The optimum number of brushes on one shoot should be 1-2 pieces. Thus, the plant will not suffer from excessive load.

The color of the grape berries is white, the fruits themselves are large, ripen round or oval, as a rule, the mass of one berry reaches 12 grams. The peel of the fruit is distinguished by its density, which increases the transportability of the crop over long distances. That is why grapes are grown not only in private vineyards, but also on a serious industrial scale. In the pulp there is a minimum number of seeds, usually it does not exceed three pieces. The pulp of grapes is fleshy and juicy.

Tastes of berries are at a high level, in addition, "Kesha" has an unobtrusive floral aroma. The sugar content of the berries is about 25%, the acidity is at the level of 6-8 g / l.

The variety has good resistance to mildew, but the plant's immunity to bacterial infections is low, therefore, 2-3 preventive treatments for diseases are recommended during culture cultivation. An effective remedy in this case is Bordeaux liquid or fungicides.

Grapes "Kesha" refers to frost-resistant varieties, thereby maintaining viability when the temperature drops to -23 degrees. Therefore, it is popular in areas where there are quite harsh climatic conditions.

Berries are recommended for fresh consumption, brushes are well stored in a cool place until late autumn.

With proper planting, rooting of cuttings and fruiting of crops occurs fairly quickly, so that the first harvest from the bush can be gathered two years after planting. As practice shows, competent agricultural engineering and compliance with all requirements allow the vineyard to actively bear fruit for more than 10 years. This feature makes it possible to attribute the variety "Kesha" to perennials.

For the most complete description of the hybrid is to highlight the positive and negative qualities of the plant. The benefits of the variety include:

  • self-pollination capacity;
  • early ripeness of the hands;
  • large size of bunches and grapes;
  • large amounts of harvest;
  • frost resistance;
  • a high percentage of aging shoots;
  • transportability;
  • effective propagation by cuttings;
  • resistance to mildew.

The disadvantages of the variety include the following features:

  • propensity to reduce the size of brushes with improper normalization of load on the bushes;
  • the culture does not tolerate nitrogen-containing fertilizers;
  • prophylactic spraying of diseases is required;
  • needs compulsory pruning.

Kinds

    After the grape "Kesha" was widely distributed, breeders brought out two of its hybrids, which have the appropriate names - "Kesha 1" and "Kesha 2". Cultures have a lot of similarities regarding organoleptic qualities and appearance, as well as some differences.

    "Red Talisman" - the second name of the variety "Kesha 1". Among the main features of this plant it is necessary to highlight its resistance to frost. In this characteristic, the hybrid is much superior to the mother culture. However, when breeding grapes in middle latitudes, it is still worth covering bushes for the winter.

    Among the other qualities of "Keshi 1" it is worth noting the resistance to infections with fungal infections. Therefore, Super Kesh very rarely suffers from gray mold or mildew.

    "Talisman" has only female inflorescences, due to which it needs to grow nearby pollinating plants. Technical ripeness of berries occurs in 125-135 days. Brushes in a hybrid have a mass of about one kilogram. Berries ripen in light red color, the weight of one reaches 16 grams.

    As for taste, “Kesha 1” is remarkable for its unobtrusive nutmeg flavor on the palate. As with the parent variety, the hybrid berries have good transportability and keeping quality.

    "Talisman" requires compulsory molding, because the yield of bushes directly depends on the correct agrotechnology. Works on care and cultivation include the following activities:

    • timely feeding complex fertilizers;
    • the correct scheme of watering the vineyard;
    • rationing of harvest and cutting stepsons;
    • the need for pollination in the flowering phase.

      "Kesha 2" is a hybrid that was the result of crossing the Kishmish Radiant and Kesha 1 grapes. In addition to the main name, the hybrid is called "Tamerlane" or "Zlatogor". The plant is characterized by an average aging time. The ripe fruits of the hybrid have an amber or yellow color, bunches are formed of conical shape, the berry weight is about 16 grams, the weight of the whole hand is no more than a kilogram. Sugar content of grapes is at the level of 23%, acidity is not more than 8 g / l.

      On one shoot there should be no more than two clusters, almost 90% of shoots are fruitful in the bushes. Unlike the maternal crop, “Kesha 2” is a self-pollinated variety, but additional pollination will contribute to an increase in the volume of the future crop. After ripening, the grapes can hang on the bushes for quite a long time, maintaining their marketable qualities.

      The variety does not tolerate a decrease in temperature of more than -25 degrees, so in the northern regions it needs shelter with the arrival of winter. Agricultural technology includes the following types of work:

      • soil fertilizer;
      • regular watering;
      • normalization of ovaries and pruning;
      • shelter for the winter.

      As for immunity to viruses and diseases, the hybrid has good characteristics, but it is still not worth refusing from additional preventive treatment.

      Landing

      Among the main nuances concerning the planting of Kesh grapes, it is necessary to note its demands on the type of soil in the garden plot. Black soil will be optimal for planting crops. Before you start preparing and choosing a place for a vineyard, it is worth considering that the hybrid and its types are distinguished not only by the large size of the above-ground part, but also by the powerful root system. Therefore, high-lying groundwater will be extremely undesirable for productive growth and development of culture.

      Planting of seedlings can be performed only when the air temperature warms to at least +15, and the soil temperature - to +10.

      The best time for planting the crop in the ground in mid-latitudes is the first spring months, in the southern regions sometimes grapes are planted even in autumn.

      Being engaged in the preparation of pits for plants, you need to calculate in advance their size so that the wells are suitable for adult bushes. Therefore, the most successful option would be the dimensions of the pits 50 x 50 cm. The gaps between plants in the same row should be at least 1.5 meters.

      Soil for the pit is mixed with humus or phosphorus compounds, at the bottom you need to place drainage, which will help avoid stagnation of water in the ground, and also protect the roots from rotting.

      When rooting is very important to monitor the location of the root collar, its location should be at ground level. After planting, you need to cut the seedling into two buds and establish a reliable support for the plant. Watering young seedlings need to hold immediately after its disembarkation. On one bush will need about three buckets of water.

      Care

      Young plant after planting requires minimal care. If the seedling is planted in spring, in the first summer it is necessary to ensure optimum irrigation, good weeding of the soil from the weeds, loosening and mulching the soil. By the arrival of frosts, the grapes are knocking out and covered. For these purposes, you can use dry grass, pine needles or covering material. When choosing the latter option, it is necessary to avoid contact of the culture with the material, there must be a small space between them to avoid freezing.

      The main volume of work for the grower will begin in the second year after the rooting of “Keshi” in the ground. With the arrival of heat, the plants are freed from covering material, and the culture health is assessed after wintering. Branches that contain any defects, you must cut, also to process the bush Bordeaux liquid.

      In order to intensify the growth of grapes, you can resort to the use of phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. With the arrival of summer, the care work consists in trimming the excess shoots and normalizing the number of brushes.

      To eliminate the risk of pea berries, it is necessary to control the load on the crop. Pruning is carried out on 8-10 eyes, about 40 buds should be left on the whole bush. The shape of the plant is given by optimal placement of clusters on the shoot, in extreme cases, one shoot can contain two brushes. In some cases even the brushes with berries have to be rationed.

      Soil mulching is an important step in the care of the vineyard. In the hot months, a layer of mulch will help preserve moisture in the soil, in the winter - to prevent the freezing of soil and roots.

      Taking into account the level of natural precipitation, the pattern of irrigation of grapes is determined. The first watering should be carried out before the phase of blooming buds, one plant will need about 15 liters of water. Secondary watering, subject to moderate rainfall in the region, is needed closer to the beginning of June.

      In a drought, the frequency of irrigation of grapes must be increased, but the excess moisture can adversely affect the taste of berries. To remove excess water, a special drainage system is arranged around the vineyard.

      Preparing plants for winter consists of the following activities:

      • after collecting the brushes, pruning is done to reduce the load on the plant;
      • bush removed from the supports and bend down, you can additionally fix it;
      • in November, the plant is covered with dry grass or foliage, on top - with a film, securing it.

      Tips and reviews

        Experienced winegrowers note that the effectiveness of planting Keshi grapes will be about the same during the spring and autumn planting of the crop on the site. Therefore, the choice of the optimal time should be based on the specific climatic conditions of a particular region. In general, the variety has earned positive reviews both in private breeding and in cases of large culture cultivation.

        The main requirements for the cultivation of grapes are the following points:

        • of great importance for proper, rapid growth and adaptation of the plant are preparatory measures with soil and holes for planting;
        • Before planting, check seedlings for damage and defects;
        • Despite the fact that many grape varieties respond well to the introduction of nitrogen-containing fertilizers, they cannot be used for top dressing "Keshi";
        • you should not put off work on the construction of headwaters for the bushes, because even a young plant needs a garter;
        • for spring planting, the wells for the grapes are prepared in autumn, and as for the autumn planting - the work must be completed two weeks before the planned date;
        • in the role of an effective option for warming the seedling can be a regular bucket in which the bottom is previously removed;
        • Autumn pruning of bushes should be done shortly after the leaf fall; in the spring, work needs to be done before the culture awakens, when the phase of juice movement along the stems has not yet come.
