Popular Tomato Varieties

 Popular Tomato Varieties

One of the most unusual vegetable crops in our garden and at the same time one of the most beloved ones is the familiar tomato.What he likes is clear: for taste, for versatility of use, because the tomato is good in salads, in the first and second dishes, and in canning; for a relatively unpretentious temper and for the undoubted benefits for our body.

But it is also very unusual in it, starting with the name, the fascinating history of appearance, and the variety of color of the fruit, which is, to a degree, typical only of ornamental plants.

Culture description

In relation to this vegetable, two completely different names are used - tomato and tomato. It is explained by the origin of the vegetable.

Tomato - comes from South America. The Aztecs, the first to begin to eat the fruits of this plant, which is still found in the wild in some equatorial countries, called it “tomato”, hence the modern name “tomato”.

In the middle of the XVI century, the tomato was introduced to European countries. As only he was not called here! For the French, English, Italians, Belgians, Germans, this was the “apple of love”, which was considered an aphrodisiac. The French called him “Pom d Amour” and the Italians called “pomo doro” the “golden apple”. This is how today's tomato appeared. An interesting fact is that for a very long time, in both America and Europe, the tomato was considered a poisonous plant, like many of the family of the nightshade, and was not used as food.

Even the favorite meat, stewed with tomatoes, was originally invented as a means of poisoning. In 1776, George Washington tried to poison his own cook with this dish. The attempt did not take place, but Washington liked the new dish, and the failed poisoner cut his throat.

As an ornamental plant, the tomato was bred for a long time in the Russian Empire, where it already fell in the middle of the 18th century. Much later, he was served on the empress's table, and a beautiful fruit with an unusual taste of that time conquered the court gourmets.

In the modern language, the tomato is the culture itself, that is, the plant, and the tomato is the fruit of this culture. But tomato processing products - juice, pasta, ketchup, etc., are called “tomato”, and certainly not “tomato”.

Biologically, a tomato belongs to berry crops. But after all, it is not used as a berry, it is not served for dessert, jam or compotes are not made from it. Most often, it gets into a salad, side dish, or is used as an ingredient for cooking seasoning, that is, it will act as a vegetable. This issue had to be resolved by the US Supreme Court, which in 1893 passed a verdict relating tomato to vegetables.

Noteworthy is the fact that the tomato is perhaps one of the rare vegetable crops with such a variety of fruit colors. In addition to the traditional red, there are pink, orange, crimson, yellow of all shades, purple to black, as well as white and green fruits. An explanation of this will be given a little later, since the useful properties of the product deserve priority attention.

With a low calorie content (about 19 kcal in ripe fruits) tomatoes contain valuable sugars (glucose and fructose), pectin, minerals (sodium, a lot of potassium, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus, copper), B vitamins (B1, B2, B3, B5), vitamin C, folic acids, succinic, citric, malic, oxalic, glycolic, palmitic, linoleic.

Anthocyanins and choline, the percentage of which in tomatoes is very high, contribute to the elimination of free radicals from the body, increase immunity, hemoglobin, prevent the appearance of hepatosis, lower blood cholesterol. Thanks to antioxidants, tomato fruits act as natural protection against hard ultraviolet radiation.

Tomatoes are able to regulate metabolism, since malic and citric acids are actively involved in metabolic processes occurring in the body. These fruits are also necessary for patients with arthritis, rheumatism, and gout.

The researchers found that a jelly-like yellowish liquid that surrounds tomato grains contains a substance that is very similar in composition to aspirin (P3, rarely found in natural compounds), which reduces the risk of blood clots in blood vessels. Acting as a natural drainage, tomatoes contribute to the normalization of blood pressure, improve kidney and heart function.

Another interesting fact is that tomatoes are able to improve mood, as they contain a large amount of the “hormone of happiness” - serotonin.

Varieties of culture

Through the efforts of breeders a great many varieties of this plant have been bred and this work is still ongoing.

Initially, this culture is very thermophilic, so for mass breeding in middle and northern latitudes, of course, it was necessary to temper it, to develop resistance to the vagaries of the weather. Thus, along with the “long-playing” varieties, capable of bearing almost the whole year, early and ultra early tomatoes, which have time to please with the harvest for 80-100 days, differing in the height and thickness of the stem, the number of fruits brought.

Tomatoes are used for different purposes. A tomato weighing up to 800 grams (and there are such among tomatoes) is unlikely to fit in a jar when canning. Or you can be in a situation where instead of a fruit with the softest sugar pulp during heat treatment, you get some tasteless dilapidated substance. But in a salad such a vegetable would be most welcome, and in its pure form it will be very tasty. Therefore, the shape and size of the fruit, the thickness of the skin, the density of the pulp, taste, are varied.

As mentioned above, in tomato mass of useful elements. So scientists are trying to increase this benefit. Hence, such a variety of fruits - the amount of substances necessary for a person varies in each variety.

Therefore, for convenience, varieties are classified according to the following parameters:

  • by color;
  • by appointment;
  • the height of the bush;
  • on maturity.

By color

As a rule, when you first look at any fruit, the attention will be attracted primarily by its color, and only then by size and shape. Among vegetables, perhaps, it is difficult to find a richer color palette than that of tomato.

The thing is that there are useful properties that unite all varieties, but there are also such features that are inherent only in tomatoes of a certain color. They are trying to take into account and develop breeders, engaged in the breeding of new varieties. Moreover, the tastes of fruits of different colors are also different.

The most traditional “inhabitant” of vegetable gardens is a red tomato, pink and yellow are much less common, and you don’t often see white, purple, black, green varieties. Although they are offended by the attention of gardeners completely unfair. Despite their exoticism, in terms of the complexity of growing, they do not exceed the red ones, and in taste and benefit, each has its own “flavor”.

Let's start with classic red tomatoes (“Grandma's Secret”, “Watercolor”, “Alaska”, “Vitas”, “Skorospelka”, “Vityaz”, “Summer Resident”, “Mazarini”, “Major Major F1”). This color gives them the substance lycopene. It is contained in almost all types of tomatoes, but it is more in red varieties.

It is lycopene that makes tomatoes beneficial to the organs of vision, strengthens the cardiovascular system and, according to the researchers, prevents the development of cancer. This is especially true for cancer of the stomach, esophagus, pancreas, and rectum.

Lycopene plays a major role in strengthening the walls of blood vessels and capillaries, prevents the oxidation of "bad" cholesterol, removes free radicals, and slows down aging.

In general, tomato is a hypoallergenic vegetable, but in extremely rare cases, if it is consumed excessively, it can cause such an unpleasant reaction.

Orange and yellow varieties ("Amber", "Canary", "De Barao Yellow", "Altai Orange", "Mila F1", "Golden Stream", "Barrel of Honey", "Zlatozar", "Matthew F1", "Golden Autumn ”) are distinguished by a high content of beneficial keratinous compounds (alpha and beta), which color the fruit in these cheerful tones.

Keratin and vitamin C are necessary for good vision, contribute to the elasticity of the skin. In some varieties of yellow tomatoes, the content of ascorbic acid is even higher than in citrus fruits.

Such “golden apples” have a very positive effect on the work of the digestive system and the state of the respiratory organs (good prevention even of lung cancer).

The regal fruits of pink shades, distinguished among others by impressive size, in taste are the most delicate and sweet (“Bull Heart”, “Tsunami”, “Pink Giant”, “Wild Rose”, “Miracle of the Earth”, “Victoria F1”, “Early Love ”,“ Pink Unicum ”,“ Pink Honey ”,“ De Barao Tsarsky ”,“ Pink Pioneer ”,“ Pink Heart ”,“ Cherry Rio ”). Their priority advantage is the content of lycopene and keratin, sugars and microelements, and B vitamins prevailing over all varieties.

This composition makes a pink tomato useful for strengthening the immune system, reduces the risk of the appearance and development of cancer cells, helps to improve blood circulation in the brain, serves to prevent cardiovascular diseases, helps with depression and asthenia.

Phenol and anthocyanins give the tomatoes a purple color, and depending on the percentage of their content, variations in shades from light blue to almost black are possible (“Left”, “Indigo Rose”, “Chernomor”, “Black Cherry”, “Chocolate Bunny”, “ Blueberry "," Idol "," Blue Tomato "," Creme Brulee "," Purple Jasper ").

It is for an increase in tomatoes of natural anthocyanins that these varieties were bred. In addition to reducing the risk of heart attack and stroke, they affect the emotional state, memory, coordination of movements.

The taste of the fruit of this unusual color is very rich, bright, with a share of exotic. Plants are sick less than others and, according to their fans, easier to care for. There is a high yield and "good behavior" when canning.

Tomatoes with white fruits differ markedly in appearance and taste from their fellows (“Big Ice Cream”, “Swan Song”, “White Tomesol”, “Lotos”, “White Sugar”). It is caused by the fact that they contain less oxalic acid, but more fructose and glucose, which makes it possible to use them with manifestations of allergy, for dietary and baby food.

These varieties, as a rule, are intended for cultivation in the conditions of shelters of different types.

Green tomatoes are becoming increasingly popular (Malachite Box, Absinthe, Kiwi, Val Green Striped, Emerald Apple, Giant Emerald, Swamp, Green Mustang). They are green not because they are immature, but because they retain this color even in a mature state, as they contain a large amount of a very useful substance - chlorophyll.

In its effects on the human body, chlorophyll is similar to hemoglobin. Thanks to him, the blood is more actively saturated with oxygen, ulcers and wounds heal faster, immunity increases.

Tomatoes are very sweet and fragrant, grown in greenhouse conditions and in the open field. Very resistant to traditional "tomato" sores, respectively, pesticides can not be applied. And one more valuable property: if you are allergic to lycopene and anthocyanins, you can use these fruits.

To destination

Another criterion for choosing a plant variety is what the future harvest is for.

After all, it would be desirable to eat “just like that” fragrant and tasty fruit (and many sweet varieties do not even need to be salted), and cut it into salad and use it in vegetable sandwiches.

For these cases, grown large, fleshy, delicious salad tomatoes, they are also called dessert. Be sure to wait until they mature in the garden, then all their qualities will be fully revealed. They also, as a rule, and the most vitamin. The classic of the genre in this case is the favorite sort of “Bull's heart”.

There are a lot of dessert varieties, among them you can choose sweet ones (for example, “Pink Sherbet”, “Biscuit F1”, “Sugar”), hearty fleshy (“Beefsteak”, “Bourgeois”), cherry (“Liqueur F1”, “Sparrow F1 ").

It is important for many not only to eat fresh tomatoes in the summer, but also to preserve for the winter. Here the criteria will be the size and shape of the fruit, the density of the pulp, the strength and thickness of the skin. For blanks suitable popular "Ladies Fingers", "Granddaughter", "Canning Pear", "Afalina F1".

Maybe another goal - as long as possible to keep the crop fresh. Of course, now it’s not a problem to buy tomatoes at any time of the year, but personally grown fruits are much tastier and healthier.

To do this, it is advisable to grow tomatoes that ripen late and bring long dense fruits of a small size ("Giraffe", "Catherine", "Zazimok", "Rococo", "Empire", "Stone Flower", "Lezhebok"). Especially good for storing wrist varieties ("Lezhky", "New Year"). The disadvantage is that the taste of fruit grown for long-term storage, somewhat weakened.

But there are also so-called universal varieties that are suitable for all of the above purposes (for example, Moskvich, Pervoklashka, Red Rooster, My Love F1, Rio Grande).

They can grow and not very experienced gardeners, as they are unpretentious in the care; they will also be suitable if there is not very much space for planting. As a rule, all these varieties are adapted to any climatic conditions.

The height of the bush

Plant height is a very significant characteristic when choosing a variety of tomatoes. Usually amateur gardeners divide them into indeterminate and determinant. With a more rigorous approach in the latter group, subgroups are distinguished: super determinant, supersuper determinant, determinant and semi determinant. As a separate species, it is possible to distinguish standard varieties, which, apart from short stature, differ from the others by a short, thickened, resistant stem.

Indeterminate tomato varieties do not limit the growth of their stem during the entire growing season and are able to reach two or more meters in height. Of course, the plants need to be set up with props or tied up. In this case, the trellis laying method is very convenient, which significantly saves space. In southern latitudes, it is possible to grow such tomatoes in open soil, but in the middle lane you cannot do without a greenhouse.

The undoubted advantages of indeterminant varieties include the ability to "stretch" the time of harvest - new fruits will be tied up and ripen for a sufficiently long time, almost until the weather conditions allow. As a result, a very impressive crop can be harvested from one plant.

It is important for the formation of plants to resort to staining so that they grow one, less often two or three stems. If this is not done, then you can get tropical thickets with a minimum number of fruits. They are also demanding on the choice of soil, it must be loose and rich in nutrients.

Among connoisseurs, greenhouse varieties are popular: "The Miracle of the Earth", "Major", "Russian Size"; Hybrids "Verlioka F1", "Octopus F1", "Tretyakov F1", "Start F1", "Selfest F1", "Intact F1".

When grown outdoors, the yield of tomatoes will drop significantly, but this will compensate for the best taste of the fruit.

Interesting and beautiful look varieties "Anniversary Tarasenko" and "Tarasenko-2" with a funny pointed tip.They are intended mainly for canning and storage. Gardeners and multi-colored (yellow, pink, orange) group of varieties "De Barao" are valued. Yellow Miracle Tomatoes are similar in shape to lemons and are very tasty. It is possible to note more varieties and hybrids "Velmogaz", "Giant raspberry", "Mikado black", "King of Siberia", "St. Andrew's surprise".

Of course, the very right lead very tasty pink large-fruited varieties "Bull's Heart" and "Ox's Heart". It is worth paying attention to fruitful "Lopatinsky" and bright orange sweet tomatoes "King of orange". The varieties Budenovka and Grandma's Secret are widely known and traditionally popular.

Plant varieties belonging to determinant species, are able to limit themselves in growth (to be removed). At the end of the shoot an ovary is formed, then fruits appear. The first flower brush in determinant species appears, as a rule, after 6–7 true leaves and above.

Determinant varieties are good primarily for their early ripeness. Due to the fact that for the emergence of the first ovary of a floral brush, fewer true leaves are needed than in indeterminant varieties, and on one stalk they are tied up quite a lot, the fruits ripen earlier and delight in their quantity (Aurora, Agata, Dubok, "Adeline", "Yamal", "Alenka", "Anastasia", "Honey cream", "Iceberg").

Of course, the yield of tomatoes of these species lags behind the indeterminate varieties, since the plant limits the number of ovaries, but for middle and northern latitudes, the rapid and almost simultaneous ripening of fruits is a significant plus.

"Agatha"
"Adeline"

These varieties require a little more careful attention of gardeners: they need timely feeding, otherwise the plant with the intensive formation of the crop simply does not have enough minerals.

When growing it is necessary to observe several rules: protect tomatoes from diseases and pests in a timely manner, otherwise you can lose the entire crop; watering is quite rare, only after the soil has dried out, but regularly and abundantly. It is more convenient to apply the drip irrigation system when irrigating or to water the plant under the root so as not to wet the leaves and avoid late blight infection.

Some varieties need pinching, that is, removing excess shoots to form a shrub and avoid overloading it, otherwise fruit ripening and plant growth will slow down.

The varieties of tomatoes combined in this group are divided into varieties, each of which is characterized by its own characteristics.

Semi-determinant tomatoes begin to lay flower brushes after the appearance of 7-8 true leaves. The number of brushes can vary from 10 to 12, between them 2-3 leaves are formed. Designed for cultivation in greenhouses and greenhouses, allowing rational use of the area ("Eagle's Beak", "Apples in the Snow", "Eagle Heart", varieties of "Bull's Heart" variety). It is a kind of transitional form between indeterminant and determinant varieties. The height of the bush can rise to 1.5-2 meters and needs tying.

"Eagle's Beak"
"Apples in the snow"

Determinant form 5-6 brushes every 2-3 sheets. It is convenient to grow them in open ground ("Nevsky", "Red Arrow", "Kibits", "Rio Grande", "Summer Resident", "Openwork", "Aisan", "Dubok", "Dina", "Siberian early") .

Superdeterminant tomatoes are early maturing varieties that plant flower brushes through one or two leaves and limit their appearance after the fourth or fifth ovary. In height, they rise no higher than 60 centimeters. As a rule, these plants do not require pasynkovany, grow well in open ground, and because of their rapid maturation, they simply do not have time to get late blight ("Moskvich", "Sweet bunch", "Alaska", "White filling", "Aprikot Dreams", “Riddle”, “Betta”, “Bonnie MM”, “Fighter”, “Raja”).

"Nevsky"
"Bonnie MM"

In this subgroup, supersuper determinant varieties can be distinguished, which include the super-ripened ("Grotto", "Malyshok F1", "Sanka", "Gold Stream", "Supermodel", "Eldorado"), and dwarf ("Bonsai", "Truffle "," Bobcat "). Between two or three floral tassels that appear after the fifth true leaflet, there is no foliar gap, but no more than four such tassels are laid.

In recent years, standard tomato varieties, previously used predominantly in industrial agricultural technology, have become very popular. These are low-growing plants with well-developed, thickened stems, forming a compactly formed bush without pasynkovaniya, unpretentious in care ("Kalinka-Malinka", "Edelrot", "Snow White").

By maturity

The breeders did their hard and long-term work to adapt the heat-loving plant to the climatic conditions of more northern latitudes. The goal of the scientists was both high yield, and rather fast ripening time, and taste.

Early varieties are most attractive for middle-latitude gardeners, because summer is short, often capricious and cool, and I really want to try my own harvest faster.

Early varieties of tomatoes, in turn, have several varieties that differ in ripening terms. It is difficult to draw a strict line between them, but it exists.

There are:

  • medium early varieties (harvest can be collected in (100-105 days);
  • early varieties (ripen for 90-99 days), they are also called early ripening;
  • Ultra early (ripening period - 70-89 days), often called ultrafast, extra early, extremely early.

    Ultra early tomato is usually short, medium-sized fruit. Many varieties of this species can be sown directly on the garden, without seedlings, provided that the land is warm enough. When growing seedlings from some of them can be expected fruits in early summer.

    Since these tomatoes ripen quickly and do not have time to "soak up" the sun's rays, they will not taste very sweet. Most often these are small rounded fruits with dense pulp and pronounced acidity (“Alaska”, “Betta F1”, “Ryzhik F1”, “Biathlon F1”, “Boni-M”, “Gavrosh”, “Druzhok F1”, “Leopold F1 "," La-La-F F1 ").

    Care for ultra early varieties will not be difficult even for novice gardeners, not for nothing that they are said to be “for the lazy.”

    Early ripe tomatoes, among them there can be both determinant and standard, will please the first crop for 5-10 days later super early, but their taste will be more saturated. It is worth paying attention to the well-established brands: "Sugar Bison", you can also meet him under the name "Leader of the Redskins", "Big Mommy", "Tsar Bell", a hybrid "Prima Donna F1".

    Middle-early tomatoes ("King London", "Pink Bush", "Cardinal", "Siberian Miracle", "Bear Paw", "Golden King", "Bread-giving", "Tretyakov") already require more warm days, therefore it is recommended to plant first them in the greenhouse or under the film, and in the open ground - in a place well warmed by the sun. Among middle-early varieties, determinatives are most often found, but with greenhouse cultivation there may also be indeterminate ones.

    "Big Mama"
    "Bread-giving"

    Middle-aged (100-115 days) and late-ripening (120-130 days) tomatoes are more capricious to climatic conditions. These include semi-determinant and indeterminate varieties, which can only be fully matured in a warm climate, in the middle zone they require planting in greenhouses.

    This group includes the above-mentioned variety “Bull's Heart”, as well as “Pear” yellow, red, black, “Nobleman”, “Pickling delicacy”, “Amateur's dream”, “Sabelka”, “De Barao” yellow, red , black, "Mikado", "Creme brulee", "Paul Robson".

    Among the variety of tomato varieties, there are several that deserve to be called “the most”.

    So, the most decorative and most indoor is the Bonsai variety. This variety of dwarf plants will surely be of interest to collectors, dedicated amateur vegetable growers who, even in winter, cannot part with their hobby, people with disabilities (which serves as a significant obstacle to practicing horticulture).

    This variety is interesting because it grows and bears fruit on the windowsill at any time of the year, but it successfully adapts to the open ground, so it can become a real decoration of your site. In height rises no more than 25-35 centimeters, the fruits reach maturity of about 85-90 days.

    In addition to aesthetic pleasure, it can bring a good harvest (up to two kilograms from a bush) of small, tasty fruits.

    The most winding ones are ampelous varieties “Cascade”, “Citizen”, “Garden Pearl”, unique for their rapid maturation (only 55 days) “Tiger”. Suitable for cultivation both at home and in the open air. Very beautiful as an ornamental plant with lush leaves and climbing stems. Despite its small size, the fruits have amazing taste.

    In recent years, breeders have paid much attention to the development of new ampelous species, as they have a number of significant advantages: they do not require much space for planting, abundantly bear fruit, practically do not get sick and are not afraid of pests, resistant to drafts, grow in shaded places, and A sufficient pot size perfectly coexists in the apartment.

    The most cold-resistant variety - "Heavyweight Siberia." It combines with success such qualities as rapid maturation, unpretentiousness in care, resistance to diseases and the possibility of growing in harsh natural conditions. The variety is determinant, it can grow up to a meter in a greenhouse, but it does not exceed 70 cm in open ground, it is early ripe, the fruits are very large (up to 500 grams) and tasty.

    The most original is the variety "Casanova". It is characterized as very fruitful (up to 12 kg from a bush), fleshy and sweet, practically without seeds. Originality consists in the unusual elongated shape of the fruit, which culminates in a spicy split.

    The variety is indeterminate, mid-season, in the northern regions it is recommended to be planted in a greenhouse, and in the south it grows remarkably in open ground. It is good both for salads, and for canning, and at low (about 10 degrees) temperature and high humidity (about 80%) it will be quietly kept until mid-winter.

    How to choose seeds?

    There are more than seven thousand varieties and hybrids of tomato. To navigate in such a diversity is difficult even for an experienced vegetable grower, and even a beginner, and even more so.

    Immediately advice from experienced gardeners: you should not be guided only by the image on the package with seeds, you must carefully read the information on the back and clarify it, using specialized sources.

    You can use the advice of friends, but again remember that the conditions for growing even in nearby areas may differ significantly (soil type, light, warming).

    Having decided on the purposes for which the fruits will be grown, what size, color and shape I would like to receive, taste preferences, it is necessary to take into account two more important points: the region of your residence and the place reserved for tomato cultivation.

    It is of course much easier for the inhabitants of the south to choose tomato varieties depending on their preferences. But gardeners of the middle zone, the Moscow region, the Urals, the northern regions, not spoiled by good sunny weather, find the right variety.

    The first choice will fall on tomatoes, ripening in a short and very short time. But do not abandon varieties with medium and late ripening.With careful attention and good choice, you can ensure that the garden will bear fruit from the beginning of summer until autumn.

    Hothouse varieties are intended, first of all, to gardeners with a long-term experience as at such cultivation it is necessary to consider a set of nuances. This includes the proper placement and formation of plants, pinching, installation of supports, careful observance of temperature and light levels, timely ventilation, feeding and protection from diseases.

    But, on the other hand, such cultivation has many advantages:

    • one can more freely approach the selection of varieties and include in his collection both mid-season and late-ripening varieties;
    • make full use of their fruiting benefits;
    • create the necessary microclimate for the selected culture (temperature, humidity);
    • plant the plant much earlier;
    • carefully prepare the soil, fertilize, disinfect.

    As a rule, tall indeterminate and semi-determinant varieties are selected for growing in shelters of various types, which saves space in the greenhouse, collects abundant crops and enjoy the fruits of their labor for a long time.

    Experts advise plants for greenhouses that are able to resist putrefying diseases, because in warm and humid air greenhouses harmful microorganisms multiply very quickly. Therefore, despite the fact that there are varieties - real garden veterans, you should pay attention to the new developments of breeders, more protected and possessing improved taste.

    Recently, gardeners are increasingly preferring modern polycarbonate greenhouses. Yes, this is understandable: flexible and light, easy to handle and assemble, well transmitting the sun's rays, they are able to protect plants from pests and diseases, it is only important to properly assemble them, install and follow the recommended irrigation and ventilation regimes.

    Outside of competition for growing in greenhouses remain the determinants of "Bull's heart" and "Ox's heart." There are few tomato lovers who are unfamiliar with their wonderful taste, peculiar appearance (shaped like a heart), fleshy flesh with a "sugar" break. Tomatoes of different colors were bred on a varietal basis: yellow and purple were added to the traditional pink ones.

    For quite a few years (from the end of the sixties) in the central and more northern regions of Russia, the legendary Bely Bulk variety has been popular. Its undoubted merits include ease of care, pleasant taste, versatility in use, resistance to transportation and storage, the fruits are not prone to cracking. This determinant is suitable for both greenhouses and open ground.

    The determinants are recognized and recognized gardeners "Gina", "Lakomka", "Ilyich F1".

    Very tasty miniature determinant "Sun". Exclusively for greenhouses recommended "Dobrun", "Yellow Icicle", "Belgorod cream", ideal for harvesting "Farm Salt."

    A real find for amateur greenhouses is the Nugget F1. Not very naughty, it will provide with red large fruits from the beginning of July almost until October.

    "White filling"
    "Yellow Icicle"

    The gardeners of all regions do not cease to use the love of the deserved varietal row "De Barao". It is literally good for everyone: the ripening of fruits will last from the beginning of August and almost to frost, resistant to the scourge of vegetable growers - the phytophthora. Will add a number of advantages excellent "tomato" taste, universality of application, long storage. Plus, you can choose a variety of tomatoes of any color.

    Selection work on new products is conducted in several areas: endurance under stressful conditions, resistance to diseases and pests, quantitative and taste indicators, appearance.

    These are large-fruited varietal beef-tomatoes "Giant Novikova", "King of the Giants", "Tungus", "Miracle of the Earth", "Crimson Dawn", "Fingers lick".

    "De Barao"
    "Giant Novikova"

    Among the new modern hybrids have already received recognition:

    • for polycarbonate greenhouses: Alexander the Great F1, DJ F1, F1 Drive, F1 Grand, Kirzhach F1, Russian Tsar F1;
    • for film covers: wrist "Intuition F1", "Tolstoy F1", "Scarlet Caravel F1", "Pink Magic F1".

    Novice gardeners can be difficult to cope with greenhouse varieties. They most often require pinching, and some of the formation of the wattle fence, as there are fragile indeterminants that need to be grown not into one, but into two or three stems. Therefore, for starters, you should pay attention to the well-proven low and early-maturing (95 days) greenhouse hybrid “Friend F1”.

    It should be noted that in the middle zone of Russia, it is recommended to grow tomatoes in a seedling way, only for the south, planting directly into the soil by seeds is acceptable.

    For open ground in middle latitudes, low-growing determinant varieties with early ripening, weather-resistant, low-maintenance, compact, suitable both for fresh use and for canning are intended primarily (Buyan yellow, Malyshok F1 "," Siberian Early "," Rocket "," Golden Andromeda "," Alpatyeva 905 A "," Barrel F1 "," Sanka "," Liana ").

    Sanka is especially appreciated by lovers of superearly varieties. Delicious beautiful fruits begin to ripen the very first - already 75 days. In addition, it is impossible not to appreciate the unpretentiousness, compactness and versatility of the variety.

    Medium early oval tomatoes "Lady fingers" have long been recognized as the most popular for open ground. They have an excellent taste, are excellent for canning and can be stored fresh for a long time.

    The hearts of those who love pink tomatoes won the super-early, cold-resistant “Raisin” (it ripens by 80 days). The plant is able to grow even in low light, has a remarkable immunity, while the fruit retains the sugary pulp, it is valuable in pink varieties, and can withstand long storage.

    Among the semi-determinants, the “Red Arrow” hybrid is recognized as the best for the middle lane; it succeeds in ripening in 95 days. Good taste, perfect for blanks.

    "Buyan yellow"
    "Lady fingers"

    Tomatoes that ripen for 100-115 days are very good for both open ground and greenhouses: lettuce "Mayak", well-known and deserving excellent recommendations "Sugar Bison", "Altaechka", "Black Prince", "Pink Honey", "Chernomor".

    “Altai Red”, “Bull's Forehead”, “Black Pear”, “Ispolin”, “Cardinal”, “Königsberg”, “Pertsevidnyi Low” are great for Moscow region.

    Biologists derived many types of tomatoes, adapted to risk farming. Here, of course, determinant and stacked varieties are in the lead, forming a strong, low shrub and adapted at the cellular level to withstand a drop in temperature.

    These include, for example, the already well-known “Heavyweight of Siberia”, which limits its growth at temperatures above 28-30 degrees. Even in the conditions of the north-western regions, by the middle of July, the incredibly unpretentious multiple fruit “Lollipop” will delight you with tasty tomatoes.

    Sweet raspberry fruits of the staggered “Winter Cherry” are able to be stored for a very long time. By the middle of August, the Far North, Snegir, Northerner, Native, and Taimyr tomatoes will be given away the entire crop.

    "Lollipop"
    "Pink Honey"

    Of course, through the efforts of breeders, a large number of new developments appear, adapted to the weather conditions in different regions of Russia, but still the majority of gardeners choose for themselves proven favorite varieties. And it's very good that users share their invaluable experience in reviews.

    Gardeners who have devoted many years to the cultivation of tomatoes are advised to plant 3-4 varieties on the site, which allows them to be used for various purposes for quite some time.

    They shared this interesting fact: if you keep a container of fermenting grass or manure in a greenhouse, this simple trick will increase the size of the fruit and the yield due to the increased content of CO2 in the air.

    It is difficult to name the best or the most fruitful varieties, but most fans of tomato culture agree that with a minimum of care the greatest return will be from “Anastasia”, “Rose of the Winds”, “Pink Elephant”. I managed to surprise with the yield, taste and size of the fruits a relatively new sort of “The King of Giants”.

    For the middle band, “White filling”, “Ladies fingers”, “Budenovka”, “Pink honey” and the country long-liver (almost 30 years old) - “Titan” remain unrivaled.

    A remarkable opinion has developed about the varieties “Gina”, “F1 Keg”, “Aphrodite”, “Legionnaire”, “Honey Saved”, “Doll”. Their excellent yield, resistance to disease and bad weather, excellent taste are noted.

    It is probably difficult to find a variety for which no good word could be found. No wonder that breeders are making so much effort that every vegetable grower can find that coveted “own” tomato.

    But the tomato is a very grateful berry. And it is good that there are many varieties, because it is only necessary to carefully consider their features, to ensure proper care, and “satisfied” tomatoes will definitely respond to care.
