 Sunflower oil burn: what to do and how to treat?

A burn is a damage to the tissue that always brings a lot of trouble, from severe pain to ugly scars and scars.Sunflower oil burn is especially dangerous, because the temperature of boiling oil is much higher than the temperature of water or steam. How to cope with a similar injury, we analyze in the article.

Special features

Oil burn is most common among those who love to cook. If a few drops from the pan fell on the skin, it will be unpleasant, but it will not cause any special harm to health. If the boiling product in large quantities spilled on the body, it is necessary to take urgent measures.

The “insidiousness” of the oil lies in the fact that it instantly creates an impenetrable film on the skin that prevents the heat from escaping. This means that every minute the burn will all be aggravated, penetrating further into the tissue.

Doctors identified four degrees of injury, they all differ from each other.

  • First degree only possible if a small amount of the product gets on the skin. Pain will be felt, redness and slight swelling will appear in the lesion. Such an injury is not the reason for seeking medical attention, since all sensations will pass in a maximum of 4-5 days.
  • At the second degree there are large blisters on the skin, in which there will be liquid. You can not remove them yourself, as this will lead not only to severe pain, but also to the penetration of the infection. Here you need to immediately call an ambulance.
  • Third degree it is characterized not only by skin lesions, but also by the penetration of oil into deep tissues. Lack of quick help will lead to necrosis and lack of sensitivity in the affected area.
  • In the fourth degree not only tissues are affected, but also bones. The good news is that at home you most likely will not get such a burn.

First aid

      If you or your loved ones burned with boiling oil, before arrival of the doctor it is necessary to take certain measures.

      • Cooling. Since the oil cannot dry quickly and evaporate from the skin, it is necessary to immediately place the burned area under cold water. This will cause severe short-term pain, but after a couple of seconds, the long-awaited relief will come. In addition, you can get ice from the freezer, wrap it in a thin cloth and attach it to the damaged area. But it is allowed to do this only with small burns, with a strong defeat the ice will only aggravate the pain.
      • Dressing If possible, go to the pharmacy and get a special bandage that does not stick to the skin. It should not be too tight to maintain a certain level of moisture. In addition, you can use regular food film. But forget about cotton and bandage, they will not only stick to the burn site, but also leave their microparticles there.
      • Reception of painkillers. If you know exactly what drugs a person does not have allergies, you can give him a few painkillers to alleviate the discomfort. It may be drugs such as "Ketanov", "Spazmalgon."
      • Warming. This stage is relevant only when the burn victim has a fever. It is impossible to apply ice, on the contrary, offer the patient a blanket, give him a heating pad or several bottles filled with hot water.

        In no case can not:

        • independently try to open the blisters;
        • tear off clothing adhering to the burn site;
        • apply wet and dry wipes, bandages, cotton wool to the burn;
        • tight bandage;
        • apply fat sour cream and other dairy products, smear with soothing creams.

        Treatment

        If the victim has received minor injuries of the first degree, then there is no point in thinking about serious treatment. Here you can get cold compresses, and when the pain subsides a bit, apply tools such as "Panthenol", "Levomekol", sea buckthorn oil. They all contribute to the rapid healing.

        If the burn is of the second degree and higher, it is necessary to call an ambulance. The doctor will examine the extent of the injury and tell you whether you can be treated at home or whether it is better to go to the hospital.In the latter case, do not refuse medical assistance. The fact is that at the second degree blisters will appear on the skin, which cannot be removed by yourself, since this is a kind of protective reaction of the body. You can only trust the removal of the blister to a doctor who does this with the least health effects.

        Treatment includes the combined application of drugs. Daily it is necessary to smear the area around the burn with antiseptics or with iodine. In addition, you will need treatment with ointments that have anti-inflammatory, cooling, wound-healing properties. This may be, for example, "Rescuer", "Panthenol", "Sorkoseril", "Olazol". In the presence of severe pain, you can use sprays.

        Pain relievers drink only if the pain is so severe that a person cannot rest or fall asleep.

        In combination with chemical agents, it is allowed to try and some popular methods.

        • Aloe. Take a leaf of aloe, chop into small gruel. Lubricate the affected area with juice, and make a night compress from gruel.
        • Sea buckthorn oil. It is necessary to mix sea buckthorn and fir oil in a one-to-one ratio, then spread the skin on the mixture.
        • Potatoes. Grate a raw potato and apply it to the burn in the form of a compress.
