 How to distinguish seedlings from hot pepper sweet?

In the garden, in the garden can meet a variety of plants.And if in a more or less mature form it is not always possible to distinguish them without proper experience, it is even more difficult to distinguish seedlings of closely related varieties of one plant. The reasons may be very different, but gardeners must be able to deal with this situation.

What can happen?

Any farmers rarely rely on their memory and try to tag the seedlings one way or another. But sometimes this technique fails:

  • markup did not have time, forgot to do;
  • a piece of paper is lost;
  • the inscription has spread;
  • the mark was completely destroyed.

The essence of the problem

If only completely different plants are grown, this situation will not cause any particular difficulties for minimally trained farmers. In the extreme case, they will invite more experienced people or take advantage of ready-made photos that are not a problem to find. But where things are more complicated, if you want to separate the seedlings of bitter pepper from sweet, which should be grown separately from each other. Only such a distinction in space allows you to get a crop, taste characteristics which are 100% meet expectations. The minimum distance between hot and sweet pepper plantings should be 0.2 m.

Ideally, they should be diluted in mutually separated greenhouses or greenhouses. Failure to comply with such rules causes super-pollination. When it occurs, instead of a rich thrill, a faded taste is obtained. And those fruits, which by default should be sweet, get a shade of unpleasant bitterness.

If you collect the seeds, you can get large and extremely hot peppers, which will completely lose their characteristic sweetness.

Difference in taste

Hot peppers are distinguished by small pods and a characteristic burning taste. Depending on the specific type of plant, the severity of bitterness may not be the same. Sweet varieties, used mainly for salads, are larger than their spicy counterparts. Normally, a slight tinge of bitterness sometimes appears, but it should not burn when eaten even to the smallest degree. This sensation is very different from what occurs when eating pollinated pepper.

External differences and other means of verification

Geometry and color of foliage helps to determine what sort of bush a particular plant is. Bitter varieties of pepper have a relatively oblong, elongated leaf. It is likely that different leaves will be unequal in latitude. If the pepper belongs to one of the sweet types, the foliage is invariably wide, has a light color and a small length. There is a difference and a purely mechanical plan, it is expressed in the fact that the leaves of sharp varieties of culture are stronger.

It so happens that both types of seedlings were kept in ideal conditions and do not differ in the properties listed above. Then it is very easy to make a mistake ... but other checks help correct it. In the bitter varieties of culture characteristic taste is manifested in the leaves, let the difference be small, but it is quite noticeable. The test is to break off some of the sheet and put it on the tongue. The prominent juice will make an almost unmistakable conclusion.

Mature flower bud in bitter peppers is characterized by earlier development. Because flowering seedlings, with a probability of almost 100%, after planting should produce sharp fruit. Experienced farmers, we note, never rush to conclusions, since the “price” of a slip is a bed ruined for an entire season, and often not one. If there are still seeds from which the seedlings were grown (they are usually stored on the sprouted shoots), their taste can be assessed. Attention: caution should be exercised, since the bitterness of seeds in sharp varieties is always greater than the bitterness of the fruit!

Another parameter that allows recognizing bitter and Bulgarian peppers is the thickness of the legs. The sharper the culture, the longer and thinner this part can be. But it should be noted that the seedlings purchased in finished form may have other specific features.An exact conclusion can be made only for those peppers that are grown personally, since the differences in the growing conditions of the seedlings are very significant. It is recommended to focus on the plant leg before picking the bushes.

All these factors are of an auxiliary nature, and if you have to focus on them, it is better to think about how next time to keep accurate information about the landings more reliably.

Pre-pollination and other information

If you managed to figure out which sort of pepper is grown in the seedlings, it is best, as already mentioned, to organize an isolated space. A good substitute for this practice would be to cover the bitter varieties of the plant with plastic wrap. It should isolate them from the first hours of flowering to its full completion. If the weather conditions make the use of film cover irrational, it is worth the pepper, which looks different, to be 2–3 meters apart from each other. There will be nothing bad when this distance increases further.

It is possible to strengthen the protection against over-pollination of plantings by placing tomatoes or eggplants between dissimilar peppers. Any way of recognizing the appearance of plants is acceptable only if it is known that they are the same age. When disembarking was done at different points in time, it is easy to make an irreparable mistake. Taste taste of the leaf, torn from sweet peppers, will create a sense of ordinary grass.

Often, gardeners with experience point to such a method of distinction as difficulty in care. Bitter pepper grows easily almost everywhere, ignores almost any obstructive conditions. At the same time he gives excellent yields. For sweet "Bulgarian" subspecies (and not only them) is characterized by much greater moodiness. For full development they need a lot of heat, abundant hydration and powerful insolation. If at least one of these conditions is not observed, the development of the ovaries can not wait.

It happens that gardeners are still wrong. Even the most "objective" ways of checking seedlings are not always accurate. When initially there was no certainty, the matured and developed plants should be re-checked by all the methods indicated above. You need to have time to do this before flowering. Then there is a considerable chance that it will succeed in getting rid of the “enemies” in time, finally correcting the confusion.
