Cucumbers "Zyatek" and "Mother-in-law": features and cultivation

Cucumbers

Such a vegetable familiar to everyone as a cucumber contains all the vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, vitamin C, folic and caffeic acid, as well as the minerals: iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, etc., which are necessary for humans. Cucumbers varieties "Zyatek" and "Mother-in-law" can be grown in the garden. How to plant and care for the plant, and other useful recommendations will be discussed in the article.

Description of varieties

The versatile hybrid varieties Zyatek F1 and Mother-in-law F1 have much more similarities than differences. Both were produced by the agronomical firm "Gavrish" and the Scientific Research Institute of Vegetable Production of Protected Soil.At the beginning of the XXI century, they were registered in the State Register of Breeding Achievements of the Russian Federation with the recommendation of cultivation in Russia under the open sky and in greenhouse conditions. They are very popular in Moldova and Ukraine.

"Zyatek" has srednerosly bush, "Mother-in-law" - vigorous. The rest of "Zyatek" is similar to another variety, called "mother-in-law." Stalk variety "Zyatek F1" has an average branching and powerful root system. During the season, up to 50 beams appear on the fence, each forming from 3 to 7 ovaries. Differs in the absence of barren flowers. Cucumbers do not need to pollinate: they are parthenocarpic. A similar characteristic is inherent in the mother-in-law variety F1.

Cucumber is characterized by a cylindrical shape with pimples. The mother-in-law is of a dark green color with bright tubercles, on which brown spines are clearly visible. "Zyatek" has a pale green color with white blurred stripes along, with light tubercles and pearlescent spikes. The mass of one cucumber "Zyatek" reaches 100 g, and the mother-in-law cucumber weighs 200 g, the diameter of the fruit can be 4 cm, length - 13 cm.

Juicy and crispy pulp does not have bitterness. Memorable sweet taste is remembered. Both varieties have a delicate skin.

Seeds sprout well and take root perfectly. These two varieties have much in common: for perfect ripening of cucumbers, not only unprotected soil is suitable, but also greenhouses made of glass and greenhouses. Fruiting begin 40 days after the first shoots. Already in early June, the first crop appears. Pickles and gherkins are not a hindrance to the collection of fruits. From one bush can be collected from 7 to 10 kg. Cucumbers are stored for a long time, they are well transported.

Plants are resistant to mosaic virus, powdery mildew, olive spot and root rot.

How to plant?

For planting cucumbers of these varieties, special agrotechnical measures are required. Seeds should be planted in the first decade of April in the ground, preferably purchased in a specialty store. Then there will be confidence: the earth is not infected with pathogens.

Buy seed should be from reputable manufacturers. Each pack contains seeding rules that should be carefully examined. The coated seed was guaranteed to be disinfected and hardened under production conditions. The nutrient layer is already applied to the seeds, and therefore there is no need for any other additional actions. You can accidentally damage the useful layer of grain.

It is best to disinfect the untreated seeds in a solution of potassium permanganate, then they must be washed and dried. Special disinfectants destroy not only the pathogenic, but also the beneficial microflora. Therefore, their use is undesirable.

It is necessary to warm the seeds at a temperature above 50 degrees for about 2 hours. For heating, you can use the oven, oven, radiators. Sudden temperature fluctuations can cause irreparable damage to the seed material.

Soaking stages:

  • place the grains in a layer of napkins, place them in a container or glass;
  • fill the bottom of the tank with water, but so that the kernels are not completely under water;
  • as soon as the seed coat starts to burst, the soaking can be stopped;
  • after the procedure, the seed is planted in the soil.

It is necessary to sow seeds in peat pots, because “Zyatek” and “Mother-in-law” do not tolerate the transplant. In any case, each seed must be planted in a separate container to a depth of no more than two centimeters. At a permanent place seedlings are placed a month after the first shoots. If it has outgrown it will be very difficult for it to take root in the soil.

Temperature control is very important: if the thermometer is below +13 degrees, the seed may die. The higher the temperature, the faster the seeds will sprout. Seedlings should be grown at a temperature of +23 to +26 degrees.For the week just before planting, the seedlings create similar conditions that exist at the permanent habitat intended for them.

Pre-ground with neutral acidity and a variety of nutrients, minerals. As a fertilizer, it is imperative to add rotted manure to the previously dug soil.

Seedlings need to harden a week before planting in open ground. In the greenhouses planted cucumbers in mid-May. The end of May is the right time to land Zelentsy in the open-air soil. When the air temperature is below +13 degrees, the seedlings may die. Some gardeners plant seeds immediately on the open beds as soon as the warm summer weather is established.

    One square meter involves the placement of 3 or 4 plants, the distance between which should be at least half a meter. Then each seedling will be provided with the necessary amount of power and light.

    In order to prevent diseases of the Zyatek cucumber variety, in no case should one choose the beds where zucchini, pumpkin, or other cucumber variety was grown. Seedlings can be placed where previously grew tomatoes, potatoes, strawberries, beans, cabbage.

    Next to cucumbers, lettuce, celery, parsley, dill, onion, beetroot, radish, cabbage, peas, beans can grow. It is undesirable to grow cucumbers near sage, tomatoes, turnips, carrots and herbs.

    Care

    To care for varieties "Zyatek" and "Mother-in-law" must be properly. In no case should not allow both the drying of the soil and waterlogging. Watering should be done about two or three times a week. Water must be at room temperature. It is necessary to water abundantly under the very root, it is advisable not to fall on the leaves, it is best to perform the procedure in the evening after weakening the heat or in the early morning.

    The soil must be loosened, but not more often than once a week and only on the surface, since the roots of the cucumber are shallow. To support the water and temperature conditions it is necessary to mulch the soil. Timely hilling will protect the plant from fungal diseases and help the formation of new roots. It is necessary to systematically weed in order to avoid the deprivation of seedlings of nutrients and the risk of falling ill.

    It is recommended to air the greenhouse in a timely manner. "Mother-in-law" and "Zyatek" need constant air circulation.

    Feeding cucumbers is carried out according to the following scheme:

    • 14 days after landing;
    • during flowering;
    • at the very beginning of fruiting;
    • every two weeks at the stage of the entire fruiting.

    Before feeding, you must water the cucumbers carefully to prevent burns of the roots of the plant. Frequent feeding can lead to the death of the fence.

    Attach the stems preferably to the grid or trellis, which must be installed in advance. Their height is about two meters. Tie up the plant loop, made of twine, at the level of 10-15 cm from the soil level. It is necessary to fasten carefully so as not to overdo it with over-tying the twine loop, thereby not damaging the stem.

    Growing cucumber is recommended by one stem, so you need to properly form a plant. The formation of the scourge has the following steps:

    • when 4-5 true leaves appear, the lash is immediately attached to the grid or trellis;
    • lower flowers and side shoots are removed;
    • only shoots 20 cm long at a height of one meter are left, while the top should be pinned;
    • all shoots more than half a meter in length above one meter with at least three leaves available and the same number of ovaries are left;
    • when the plant reaches the top of the mesh or trellis, the top of the head is clamped and fastened.

    The hybrid easily transfers diseases, it is well restored after them, it is not inclined to many cucumber diseases, but it will not be superfluous to take protective measures against infection with viral, fungal and bacterial diseases.

    Prevention will be the observance of the rules of crop rotation, decontamination of seed before sowing, watering plants with only warm water to maintain the necessary moisture, access of fresh air for ventilation, removal of diseased shoots. Damaged whips, weeds, dried leaves should be removed immediately, otherwise pests will feed on them, and even insect larvae can be bred in them.

    Spray planting can be infused tobacco or garlic solution. After harvesting, the remaining parts of the plant are burned.

    Gourd aphid occupies the back of the hybrid leaves, biting through them and absorbing the sap of the plant. The stem dries, languishes, dies. To destroy a gourd aphid, a soap-soda solution is used: a quarter of a normal piece of laundry soap is rubbed on a coarse grater, a tablespoon of soda is added (with top), poured with a liter of boiling water, mixed thoroughly, diluted with ten liters of water and sprayed with a plant.

    The spider mite sucks the juice from the cucumber leaves and stems, thereby weakening the plant. It is recommended to fight it with biological means Bitoxibacillin and Fitoverm, strictly following the instructions.

    Useful recommendations

    According to numerous reviews of gardeners cucumbers "Mother-in-law" and "Zyatek" are popular varieties and any summer residents. They are loved for their self-pollinability, disease resistance, precociousness, rich yield and versatility of fruit use. In the process of growing does not require special care.

    Experienced gardeners are advised to keep water on the floor in order to preserve moisture in the greenhouse, but not to over-wet the soil. As gardeners note, due to insufficient watering, the leaves turn yellow, because of too abundant - they curl. Cucumbers should not be in the shade. This must be strictly followed.

    If the stalk and the leaves are licky, gray rot has started to appear, then the whole shrub from root to leaf should be thoroughly wiped with a solution of water, potassium permanganate and chalk.

    The appearance of yellow-brown spots on the leaves indicates the presence of fungus. You can save the plant by airing the greenhouse and destroying all the leaves damaged by the fungus.

    Owing to an excess of moisture, cucumbers can become sick with peronosporosis. Irregularities and a gray-olive bloom will appear on the leaves. Spraying whey will help to cope with the disease.

    Harvest is recommended to collect daily. Although overripe barrel-shaped cucumbers remain as tasty, but lose their attractive presentation. Special conditions for long-distance transportation of cucumbers are not required.

    All gardeners note the unusually delicate taste of crumbled crispy cucumbers of the “Mother-in-law” and “Zyatek” varieties, which can be salted, pickled, consumed fresh. They are great for making different types of salads and snacks.
