Cucumbers "Artist F1": characteristics of the variety and the rules of cultivation
Inexperienced gardeners before planting cucumbers are wondering which sort is better.There is no single answer to it, because everything depends on individual preferences and tastes. It is necessary to consider in more detail one of the varieties of early-ripe cucumber varieties "Artist F1", its main characteristics, as well as the rules of care for this vegetable crop.
Description
Cultivar variety "Artist F1" is a hybrid of Dutch selection, and also belongs to the early ripening species, because the fruits fully ripen on the fortieth day after the sprout formation. Bushes have an average height and a powerful root system. Ripened cultures have the shape of a cylinder, and the skin has a rich green tint. The size of this vegetable crop does not exceed 10 cm, and the weight of 1 green stuff is about 100 grams. Cultivar "Artist F1" is grown not only in open ground, then in greenhouses.
This seed for planting is available only in one generation of plants. Seeds of ripe cucumbers cannot be used for growing the subsequent crop. Each season, you must purchase seed in a specialty store. Cucumber fruits are used both fresh and pickled. Because of the excellent external condition of the fruit, they are used in realization, since they have excellent taste characteristics: without bitterness, with a sweetish taste, crispy, have a thin peel.
Advantages and disadvantages
Many gardeners leave positive feedback on the variety of cucumbers "Artist F1", namely due to the following advantages:
- high yield ratio - with proper care, 9-10 kg of fruit can be harvested from one square meter;
- excellent taste;
- multifunctional use of cucumbers, because they can be used fresh, canned and pickled;
- wide growing area - it is possible to land on a balcony in a special container, in open ground, as well as under greenhouse conditions under a shell made of glass or film;
- This variety of vegetable culture has high resistance to various diseases (cucumber mosaic, powdery mildew), as well as to adverse weather conditions (heat, drought);
- “F1 Artist” variety doesn’t lose its taste during transportation and is not deformed.
According to surveys of the majority of gardeners, there are no defects in this variety of cucumbers. Although they can be attributed to the high cost of products, but the overwhelming number of advantages completely hide this disadvantage.
How to grow?
Planting cucumber seeds "Artist F1" carried out by two methods. The first method is concluded in the fact that seedlings are pre-grown seedlings, and the second method involves sowing seeds immediately in open ground.
Seedling method
This method can be carried out in early April. First of all it is necessary to prepare a certain capacity (pots) and soil. Peat, humus, sawdust in the ratio of 2: 2: 1 are used as a land mix. Also, fertilizer should be added to these ingredients, which should include wood ash (40 g) and nitrophoska (30 g). Seeds before planting need to prepare, performing the following activities:
- seed stock is being reassembled, damaged elements are removed;
- after that, the good seeds are flooded with water, and the pop-up items are removed;
- Before planting, a weak solution of potassium permanganate should be prepared, in which seeds are kept for 15 minutes.
When buying seeds, it is worthwhile to carefully study the instructions; there is seed material that cannot be soaked in water. Such elements are pre-treated with a protective substance, which when washed with water will be washed off. The tanks are pre-filled with a land mixture, after which 1–2 seeds are placed into each to a depth of 20–25 mm. Tara covered with foil, and open only to pour. Irrigation measures should be carried out as the soil dries, experienced growers advise watering seedlings every other day.In cloudy weather will require additional coverage for seedlings.
If sprouted more than 2 seeds, then such seedlings need to be thinned. Leave should be the strongest sprout, and the rest are cut with scissors. In no case should not pull out unnecessary elements with roots, because there is a risk of damage to the root system of the remaining plants in the tank. In 30–31 days, 3–4 leaflets will appear on the ground, which means that the seedlings are ready for planting in open ground. But 7 days before planting, it is necessary to harden the plants so that they adapt to the lowest temperatures (not lower than +12 degrees).
Planting seeds in open ground
Sowing activities are carried out only in warm, heated soil, otherwise the seeds will grow for a very long time or, in general, will not sprout. The optimum air temperature for planting cucumber seeds is considered to be +22 degrees, while the soil should warm up to +15 degrees. Seeds are placed in the soil with the spout down to a depth of 2-3 cm, and the distance between the seeds should be at least 10 centimeters. In this case, the soil should be poured abundantly.
Often at night the temperature drops until the frosts appear, so that such weather does not affect the future cucumber harvest, experts recommend covering the garden bed with foil.
Mostly cucumbers are planted in the beds, the distance between which should be 70–80 centimeters. But this is the case if it is planned to use a special device for tying up fruits. This method of planting greatly facilitates further harvesting, and also saves space in the garden. There is another way of planting cucumbers, which is that the seeds are planted in the hole, the distance between which should not exceed 65-75 centimeters. If the planting technology is done correctly, the first shoots can be expected within 6–8 days.
Care
Caring for cucumbers "Artist F1" is in properly executed irrigation activities. It should be watered seedlings either in the early morning or in the evening. With a lack of moisture ripened fruits will have bitterness. It is necessary to water only the area around the stem, it is strictly forbidden to pour water on the stem or on the leaves of the plant. In this case, it is necessary to apply only warm water, which must be pre-settled, otherwise only the growth of cucumbers will slow down and the yield index will decrease. Watering is often, but with a small amount of liquid, because the excess moisture negatively affects the fruits, they will begin to ache and rot. At temperatures below +15 degrees, it is worth refusing to irrigate, on such days you should only loosen the ground and remove weeds.
Organic and mineral substances are used as top dressing. The first fertilization can be done at the time when the first leaves appear. During the cultivation, you can do about 4 feedings, applying organic matter (manure, ash) and mineral substances. The whole vegetation period of plants should be loosening the earth and spudding every bush, but these measures must be carried out with caution, because the root system is located very close to the ground. The distance between adjacent boring holes must be at least 15 centimeters, otherwise they will not be able to fully develop.
If it is decided to grow cucumbers in a greenhouse, then you should definitely consider a method of ventilation, which will allow you to balance the moisture index, as well as allow the penetration of insects for pollination of plants. As weeds appear, they must be removed. Harvest can be collected when the fruits have reached the required parameters, you should not wait for the moment when the cucumbers will grow. In hot weather, pick cucumbers every day early in the morning, on a cool day, picking is done every other day.
Collected vegetables should be immediately put away in a refrigerator or a cold room; it is not recommended to store cucumbers in airtight bags.
Recommendations
Cucumbers variety "Artist F1" may be subject to various diseases. If you follow certain recommendations, you can avoid such problems and collect a rich cucumber harvest. It is worth considering a few major diseases.
Mealy dew
This disease is manifested in the form of white spots on the leaves. This can occur for several reasons: high moisture, sudden changes in temperature, weeds. If the landing site does not change every season, then this problem will be renewed constantly. To combat powdery mildew, you should follow recommendations such as:
- damaged sheets should be immediately removed from the bush, so that they do not infect the remaining leaves;
- if the removal of infected leaves did not help, then the plant can be treated with ground sulfur, in which case 25 grams of ingredient per 10 square meters will be required;
- Experienced gardeners are advised to fertilize plants as often as possible with a high potassium content.
Spider mite
Especially cucumbers grown in greenhouses are affected by this disease. Mite wraps the plant with a spider web, as a result of which it dies. To prevent the occurrence of this disease, you must perform the following steps:
- properly perform watering activities;
- time to carry out cleaning and disinfection of the soil;
- You can treat the plant tincture of onion or garlic peel (per 10 liters of liquid will need 200 g of husk).
Root rot
The first signs of root rot can be detected immediately after the cucumber sprouts grow. At the same time, during the daytime, the leaves of the plant wither, and at night, on the contrary, they restore the former fresh look. The lower part of the stem has a brownish tint. To care for such plants, you must perform the following steps:
- timely spud sprouts;
- apply biological agents to the soil.
If you do not carry out measures to combat this disease, then the cucumber harvest can not be expected.
