The history of the drink

Judging by the name, this drink was invented in Ireland, and this is true. His story begins in the distant 1942. At the airport of the city of Feynes, County Limerick, many visitors were waiting for their flight. For a long time, the Irish favorite drink was tea, which was added a little whiskey. He perfectly warmed the people of the country, they had intimate conversations over a cup of tea with whiskey, whiled away long evenings.

On this day the weather was not flying and many people were waiting at the airport. To warm visitors, the bartender Joseph Sheridan decided to try a new recipe and poured a portion of whiskey into coffee, not tea. When visitors inquired about the name of the drink, the bartender immediately came up with a name for it and said that it was Irish coffee.

This drink immediately found fans, among them was reporter Sten Dellalane, who was also waiting for his flight. A dozen years after the end of the Second World War, he remembered this amazing drink and told about it to the owner Jack Keppler, containing the Buena Vista bar in San Francisco. He decided to experiment a little and added to the cream. To serve coffee, he chose a glass of durable glass on a low leg with a handle.

For decades, such Irish coffee is a popular drink. Since its birthplace is Ireland, there is an annual grand celebration dedicated to it. It takes place on July 19, since Irish coffee was invented on this day. He even had to fly to the airport, where this drink was first opened, for instructions. But even after that, for a long time he could not find the necessary proportions in the manufacture of a cocktail. While adding cream to the glass, they did not want to remain on the surface, but fell to the bottom. He even had to seek advice from the owner of the dairy, who suggested that in order to obtain the desired result, cream was needed, which settled for two days.

These cream must be whipped to the desired consistency, then they will not settle, and will float on the surface. When the desired result was obtained, the joys of Jack Keppler knew no bounds, and he decided that he would open the bars of Buena Vista in every city in America.

How to drink?

For a french press, it is better to use medium-ground coffee.
  • Water must be filtered.It should not contain impurities. Water temperature should be 95 degrees.
  • In a glass you need to pour sugar and pour whiskey. Stir this mixture until no trace of sugar is visible, and ignite.
  • The glass is covered to extinguish the flame, and coffee is added. If you use a french press, you get two servings of a cocktail.

To prepare a European drink, you should take:

  • a glass of black coffee;
  • whiskey - 50 ml;
  • sugar.

To prepare the European version of coffee, experts recommend taking cane sugar to give the drink a caramel flavor. If the cane sugar is not available, you can take a regular and fry it a little. As soon as the sugar becomes golden brown, it is ready for use.

Coffee is poured into a glass and whiskey is added. Lastly, add sugar. Then add milk or cream. The taste of the drink will depend on its quantity - in order to get a soft milk taste, you need to pour in more.

  • 4 tsp. ground coffee;
  • 60 ml of whiskey;
  • cinnamon sticks (1/4 part) or ground cinnamon (0.5 tsp);
  • cream - 100 ml;
  • sugar (it is worth taking two types - white and reed in equal parts).

Water is poured into a Turk, ground coffee is poured, cinnamon is thrown, cane sugar is poured. Coffee is brewed in the usual way. After preparing the drink, coffee and whiskey are poured into a heated glass through a fine strainer. Cream together with sugar, whipped to obtain a lush mass, spread on top of coffee, sprinkled with cinnamon or grated chocolate.
