Raspberry "Crane": characteristics and tips for care

 Malina Zhuravlik: characteristics and tips for care

Raspberry "Crane" is a little-known variety, which was bred by breeders in Russia.These plants are characterized by high yield, long-term fruiting and a pleasant taste of berries.

The variety can be grown throughout the country, since it is characterized by adaptability to different climatic conditions and the presence of immunity to disease. Winter hardiness is average.

Special features

Since 2001, the Zhuravlik raspberry variety has been included in the state register. The plant features are as follows:

  • different early ripening berries;
  • refers to remontant species that give two crops per summer;
  • has a powerful bush, whose height reaches 2 meters;
  • it is an erect shrub whose sprouts are spread out slightly;
  • annual shoots that have a purple color have a slight wax coating;
  • biennial branches are brown;
  • at the base of the shoots are thorns;
  • plants are characterized by large leaves.

Characteristics and description of berries:

  • have a rich red color;
  • differ in weak pubescence;
  • the shape of the berries is blunt;
  • the pulp is very tender;
  • on average, the weight of one berry is 2 grams;
  • the taste is sweet and sour, it is estimated at 4.7 points.

One bush allows you to collect about 2 kilograms of berries. Fruits cease to appear only after the onset of frost.

Raspberry "Crane" is characterized by a wide scope of application - it can be frozen, and also used fresh and used in the preparation of various dishes.

Advantages and disadvantages

Gardeners believe that the raspberry variety in question is characterized by excellent taste, while at the same time ensuring decent yields, although the requirements for care are rather low. The phases of plant development do not coincide with the main phases of other raspberry varieties, therefore this variety is weakly affected by pests. Mostly the fruits of this plant are used fresh, but can be processed.

This variety is recommended not only for gardeners, but also for small industries that supply products to a fresh market. When it comes to really large-scale production, preference is given to more productive raspberry varieties, given the growing regions.

Responses of gardeners about this variety are mostly only positive. Criticism is much less common - some gardeners want a more abundant crop, but with a minimum of care, which is typical for this variety, more can not be desired.

Features of growing

It is helpful for gardeners to know the following:

  • The considered raspberry variety is grown similarly with other remontant varieties. The same applies to care.
  • The distance between the bushes should be about 1 meter. This applies to the distance between plants located in the same row, and between rows should be maintained an interval from one and a half to two meters. If we neglect such parameters, this will lead to a decrease in yield.
  • Seedlings perfectly take root. It is necessary to bring in organic matter for planting - we are talking about a nitrogen-mineral complex. At the beginning of the maturation of the plant, the NPK mineral complex should be introduced.
  • It is recommended to grow "Crane" for one autumn harvest, which will continue until the frost. To do this, the shoots must be cut in the fall flush with the ground. When the gardener tries to achieve two fruits, there is a small gross yield, and both fruits start later than planned. Also, part of the second crop falls on the winter period, which leads to the loss of fruits.

Landing

Thanks to this raspberry variety, you can get a great harvest, provided that you managed to choose the right place for planting. It needs to provide sufficient natural light. It is recommended to fertilize the soil with organic or mineral substances. You can buy seedlings in specialized stores or get them from the original bush.

Preparing a place

"Zhuravlik" will develop well in areas with excellent natural light.If the plant is located in the shade, the taste of the berries will not be so rich, and the yield will be small. That is why raspberries should be planted away from any barriers to the sun.

It is necessary to have beds on a slope or an elevation. If they are placed in the lowlands, then in this area an increased level of humidity will cause the air to warm up very slowly, which negatively affects the yield.

It is necessary to prepare the soil for this plant in advance. If planting is carried out in heavy clay soil conditions, it is necessary to add river sand to it. It is necessary to fertilize the soil with humus and peat so that sandstones can better retain moisture. Acidic soil is required to lime.

Before planting raspberries on the plot, it is worth planting siderats there, which include legumes, lupine and mustard. When their flowering begins, the plants are dug up and buried in the soil to a depth of 30 cm.

Breeding

In order to carry out planting raspberry "Crane", you need to use healthy seedlings. Their optimum height is 25 centimeters, and the diameter of the shoots should be more than 5 millimeters. Make sure that the seedlings do not have any growths on the roots, damage or dark spots.

If there is a full-fledged bush, it is also possible to get material from it for planting the “Crane” raspberry. This can be done in several ways.

  • With the help of root shootsthat can be used to propagate a variety. Most of the shoots give those bushes, whose age - more than 4 years. In spring, the plants must be dug and transplanted to a separate bed. When the raspberry takes root, it can be moved to a permanent place.
  • By cuttings. For this method, it is necessary to dig out a small raspberry root in the fall and divide it into several cuttings, the length of which will be about 10 cm. The cuttings should be planted on a bed and watered well. In the spring, you will notice that shoots have appeared that need regular care. By the end of the season raspberries should be transplanted to the garden bed.
  • The division of the bush into several parts. When transplanting, it is necessary to dig up the rhizome and divide it into several parts. The cuts must be planted and powdered with wood ash.

Planting raspberry "Crane" is carried out in several stages.

  • First, you need to dig a hole, the depth of which will be 60 centimeters. The diameter of this pit should be half a meter. If you plan to plant several plants, it is recommended to dig a trench. Between individual bushes should be a distance of about a meter.
  • Two compost buckets and 250 grams of complex fertilizer, which includes potassium and phosphorus, are added to the soil.
  • The pit is covered with earth and left in this state for several weeks.
  • After the soil has settled, you can start planting raspberries. One day before planting, the roots of the plant are advised to be immersed in a rooting stimulator solution.
  • Next you need to land the plants on the garden. The roots are covered with earth, which must be carefully rammed.
  • After all the above procedures, the bushes should be watered abundantly with warm water.

After planting, seedlings are perfectly acclimatized. It is necessary to water them after this every week.

Care

Watering depends on weather conditions. It is believed that this plant must be watered every week, but in dry weather, this must be done every few days. The soil should always remain a little wet. Special attention should be paid to watering before flowering, at the time of formation of the ovary and during the ripening of berries. For watering raspberry "Crane" you can use extremely warm water, because the cold will cause stress to the plant.

If you regularly feed the plant, it will favorably affect the fruiting of raspberries. It is necessary to carry out this procedure several times: as soon as buds are bloomed, 2 weeks before the formation of inflorescences, during flowering, at the beginning of fruiting and in the autumn, after the harvest has been removed.

In the fall, old shoots are cut to the root, which stimulates the development of new ones. This procedure reduces the risk of plant disease and the spread of pests. It should be noted that in winter, fungal spores and insect larvae can winter on uncut shoots. In winter, plants should be spud and covered with dry leaves. If raspberry grows in cold regions, it can be covered with agrofibre.

The considered raspberry variety is characterized by resistance to the main diseases - plants rarely get sick if the rules of agricultural technology are observed. To protect raspberries from diseases, it must be sprayed with special preparations. Processing is carried out in early spring and late autumn. Bushes need to be tied up to supports and weed, especially if the plant is in an area with excessive moisture. The most dangerous viral diseases that are not treatable. To avoid this situation, garden tools are disinfected before and after use.

To prevent the appearance of insects, you can spray the plants with the drugs "Aktellik" and "Karbofos." Infusions on garlic and onion peel also help scare pests.
