Crispy snacks are very popular. Especially among them are actual chips, whose taste and aroma has a lot of fans. The most useful of these are corn flour chips, which can be cooked on your own at home.Their preparation does not take much time, and the result is very good even for novice cooks.

What it is?

Corn chips are very popular in Mexico, where they are called nachos. This is a light snack that will help satisfy hunger in a large company. It is made from corn flour or from tortilla corn tortillas with the addition of fragrant seasonings. Traditionally has the shape of a triangle, which is most convenient for eating snacks with sauce. Usually nachos are served with salsa or guacamole.

It is believed that corn chips were created precisely in Mexico, in the small town of Piedras Negras. A man named Rodolfo de los Santos created him in the kitchen of his little restaurant Victory Club in 1943. The name of this wonderful snack was given after, in 1949, in one of the cookbooks, where the original recipe for corn chips was printed.

Currently, there are many variations of the traditional recipe, which are popular with different countries. There are triangular and round chips, flavored with various seasonings and incorporating additional ingredients to achieve a more crisp and dense texture.

One thing remains unchanged - nachos is quite nourishing and dry, and therefore they are still served in addition with some sauce. Cheese and sour cream sauces with greens are considered especially popular in Russia.

Corn chips, because of their composition, are considered more beneficial to the human body than popular potato chips.

They have the following BJA per 100 g of product:

  • 7 g of protein;
  • 25 g of fat;
  • 61 g of carbohydrates.

The calorie content of the product is quite high - 496 kcal. It is impossible to unequivocally say that this product carries with it considerable harm or benefit. This is a flour product, and it is not recommended to use it often, especially for overweight people. Nachos chips are most popular for serving to a large group of friends and family while watching sports or a small party as a snack before serving main dishes.

Chips and sauces recipes

Nowadays, corn chips can be easily purchased ready-made or cooked on your own. Store nachos attract attention with bright packaging decorated with traditional Mexican flowers, however, their composition has left little of the traditional homemade recipe. That is why many housewives are happy to prepare corn chips at home, besides recipes and nachos cooking scheme are very simple and do not require large expenditures of money and effort.

To make traditional corn chips, you will need:

  • 400 g of corn flour;
  • 1 cup of hot water;
  • 5 tablespoons of olive oil;
  • 1 teaspoon paprika;
  • 0.3 teaspoon cinnamon;
  • half a teaspoon of ground pepper;
  • half a teaspoon of salt.

The algorithm for cooking dishes includes the following steps.

  • Mixing ingredients for tortillas. In deep dishes mix all bulk ingredients and mix thoroughly with a wooden spatula. Add olive oil. Continuing to stir, pour small amounts of hot water into the dish in small portions. The flour should swell a little, and the texture of the dough itself should be elastic.
  • Rolling tortillas and forming future nachos. Put the parchment on the table and sprinkle it with flour. Using a rolling pin, roll dough with a thickness of less than 2 mm on the table. Using a knife, cut the dough into strips and then into triangles.
  • Cooking Nachos The finished triangles are spread out on parchment and sent to a baking sheet in an oven heated to 180 degrees for 10-15 minutes. After baking, you need to remove and wait for the chips to cool completely - their texture will become more crisp and dense.

Mexican nachos can be served on the table with a coating of grated melted cheese or with a sauce.

The recipe of the popular sour cream cheese sauce includes:

  • 200 g of hard cheese;
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream;
  • 50 g butter;
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper;
  • salt and herbs to taste.

Its preparation will not take more than 15 minutes.

  • In a heated pan, melt the butter and add the grated cheese. Stir over low heat until cheese starts to melt.
  • Add sour cream and seasonings to the ingredients, continuing to stir. You need to wait until the cheese is finally melted and all the ingredients turn into a homogeneous mass.
  • Remove the pan from the heat and pour the sauce into a ceramic dish. Add greens.

This sauce can be consumed both hot and cold along with crispy nachos chips.

Traditional green salsa sauce can be prepared from the following ingredients:

  • 150 grams of olives;
  • 120 grams of green chili;
  • 2 tablespoons of olive oil;
  • 2 medium tomatoes;
  • 70 grams of green onions;
  • 2 heads of shallots;
  • 1 tablespoon of wine vinegar.

All products must be mixed in a blender until smooth and serve the sauce on the table chilled.
