How to propagate reparative strawberries?
Remontant varieties of strawberries provide several active harvests per season. The passive presence of berries in the garden is always from June to the cold.
Types of remontant strawberries can be divided by the method of fruiting and by type of reproduction.
Methods of fruiting
The difference between ordinary and remontant strawberries is that they form only in the first kidney during a short day-time, so it bears fruit once a season.
For most remontant plants, budding does not depend on the length of the day, but they can also be divided:
- strawberry dsd - long daylight;
- strawberry tamper - a neutral day light.
DSD
For a budding plant, a plant needs a ten-hour light day. In such conditions, 30% of the active ripening falls on July and 70% on the turn of August - September. In small quantities strawberries are harvested throughout the season. It has large and fragrant berries.
NSD
For a strawberry on a neutral day, it makes absolutely no difference how many hours a day lasts, it can bear fruit until mid-autumn (the length depends on the region).
In greenhouse conditions, fruiting does not stop at all. On one bush you can immediately see flowers, buds and ripe berries.
Such active ripening depletes reparative varieties. They require special care, fertilizing, watering. After winter, not every bush is restored, you need to replant young plants. The duration of the active life of the plant from three to four years.
Breeding methods
Strawberries can multiply by seed, mustache, division of the bushes - it all depends on the selected variety.
Seeds
Seed cultivation will be cheaper, but it is more time consuming. From seeds, seedlings are first grown and then planted in open ground. When planting seed method in the first year of the harvest may not be.
Seeds are sown in February in a pre-prepared soil. Strawberry loves loose subacidic, clay or sandy soil. Before planting, the ground must be well moistened (approximately 700 g of water per kilogram of soil). Mix everything in a homogeneous mass and decompose into containers. Plant seeds and cover with cellophane. For comfortable germination they are placed in a warm, bright place. After three weeks, when the first shoots appear, cellophane should be removed. During this period, containers with seedlings should be moved to a well-lit, but cooler place. In case of insufficient lighting, the bushes will stretch out and will be weaker.
In a few months, strawberries will grow 2-4 adult leaves. During this period, it should be dived, that is, transplanted along with a basal land clod, removing it with the help of garden tools. Plants prepare a spacious common box, but you can plant each sprout in a separate container.
Having carefully removed the bush from the container along with a lump, it should be moved to the prepared place and planted so that the center of the strawberry (core) remains at the level of habitual growth, not deepening into the ground. Then the plant needs to be watered.
Care involves airing (but not drafts), watering and control of temperature and lighting conditions. You must ensure that the seedlings receive at least ten hours of coverage.
Before planting in open ground, the seedlings should be hardened. For this, within two weeks, it is carried out of the house, gradually increasing the length of stay in the fresh air.
Plot for future strawberries is selected and processed in advance. If you plan to transplant plants in the fall, choose a flat sunny area to spring. It should be dug up and organic fertilizer applied. Two weeks before the upcoming planting, again fertilize the area with wood ash and mineral components (potassium and superphosphates).
Do not rush to plant seedlings until the weather becomes steadily warm. For the southern latitudes - at the beginning of May, for the central zone - in the middle of May, for the northern regions - in June.
Transplanting strawberries, you must again check the level of finding the center of the plant, it can not be deepened, but also leave high above the surface is also not recommended.Planting bushes should be squares, maintaining a distance of 30 cm between them.
Strawberries of the first year of life may produce berries, but there will be a small amount of them and they will ripen only by the end of the summer.
Usa
Strawberry produces a mustache with rosettes at the ends, from which a new plant is formed. Due to it, you can increase the mother bush, or plant a separate copy.
In this way, it is good to rejuvenate the bed, fill in the empty places where the bushes did not winter. By the way, to multiply strawberries with a mustache, you can use the same method.
In order to grow an adult bush from a small outlet, produce the following actions:
- when the first crop of strawberries has gone, they pick up plants with well-developed whiskers, leave the strongest of them, the rest are removed. The mustache is laid in the grooves made in the ground;
- on selected mustaches, they emit the most developed rosettes, they are usually located next to the bush, the rest are removed;
- over time, the sockets release the roots, they should be slightly prikopat and periodically watered. During this period, a new bush is not yet separated from the adult specimen;
- to create a strong young plant, the second crop of strawberries will have to be neglected. In August, all the flowers from the mother strawberries are removed. This makes it possible to actively nourish the young sprout with juices;
- In August, the adult and young plants are separated by chopping a mustache with a shovel. A new copy can be deposited only two weeks after separation from the parent.
The strawberry transplanted in this way, takes root well before winter and produces a crop already next summer.
Dividing bushes
Strawberry propagation by dividing the bushes is used infrequently, only for those species that produce poorly mustache. Rehabilitative varieties are depleted due to the constant fruiting, this method of reproduction is not very favorable for them.
To make the harvest good, strawberries should be properly seated. For the division choose the largest bushes of the second, third or fourth year of life. These plants have several rosettes with leaves, and they need to be divided.
Bushes, divided into horns-sockets, should be planted in early spring. Only those instances that have roots with at least three branches will take root. Berries bushes will delight the very next summer.
The lifespan of the remontant strawberry is small and it requires a certain amount of care, but the plant gives all its strength to please the whole season with its delicious berries.
