 Strawberry Furor: description of the variety and cultivation

Rare dacha plot costs without planting strawberries, especially if the family has children. Separate attention deserves the strawberry "Furor". This variety belongs to the remontant - has the ability to bloom and bear fruit several times during the season.And this quality is very much appreciated, especially in modern selection achievements.

Characteristic

Strawberry variety "Furor" is popular among both experienced gardeners and beginners. It is worth a closer look at the description of this variety. Its fruits have a very attractive appearance, and the yield is quite high. In addition, this strawberry is unpretentious in the care and excellent resistance to diseases and pests. It will not take root rot, powdery mildew and other fungal diseases.

This variety appeared in the Netherlands recently - sold since 2014. He has already received wide distribution in Poland, Great Britain, and, of course, in Holland itself. In the EU, it is also very popular and widely sold.

In regions with a warm climate, the fruiting season is significantly increased.

The grade "Furor" belongs to the neutral day repairing species. It has the highest characteristics, including due to the fact that the harvest is collected from April to December (for the northern regions from May to October).

A remarkable feature of this variety is that the fruits become ripe very quickly. Fruits ripen in a kind of waves, which makes it possible to grow berries for commercial purposes, given the high yield of the variety. In addition, the culture can have a year-round turnover. Furor strawberry refers to the Flevo Berry line from Flevoplant B. V.

You can grow this berry in tunnels, open ground and greenhouses. Interestingly, the plant can be grown in a pot using hydroponics.

The bush in the Furor variety is rather compact, but with an abundance of leaves on it, the plates of which are far apart and three-lobed in structure. The leaves are noticeably wrinkled, with large teeth along the edge of a saturated green color. Peduncles with many berries, long. They do not stop forming in any weather conditions. The berries themselves in this class have such characteristics as:

  • uniformity in size - the berries at the beginning of fruiting do not change shape, therefore they will not become huge or comb;
  • cone shape, slightly elongated, generally correct;
  • berry weight - about 33 g;
  • there is a small neck.

One of the nuances is that the berries become smaller by the end of the summer, but only slightly. There is a small percentage of curves and slightly rounded fruits, and also with a lack of a neck. But the fruits are deprived of low taste qualities peculiar to almost all remontant grades - they are really tasty. Berries have the following characteristics:

  • color is red, bright and saturated;
  • the peel has a specific glossy shine that remains even during storage;
  • if you keep them in the refrigerator, they do not darken;
  • taste is pleasant, without acid, fruits have a high sugar content;
  • the pulp is dense, without voids in the middle, has elasticity;
  • the skin is quite dense, and the seeds are small, medium immersed in the fruit.

Strawberry "Furor" gives excellent indicators of transportability and storage capacity. And according to some gardeners, it tastes like garden strawberries, which gardeners also like to keep in their gardens.

The declared yield of strawberries "Furor" is just over one and a half kilograms.

Agrotechnology

This variety feels good on soils with neutral acidity, loamy or sandy. If the soil is too heavy, it is recommended to mix river sand into it. Planting is carried out according to the dense two-line method - 20 cm between bushes and about 50 cm between rows. This strawberry will not tolerate severe cramping, so if possible it is even worth keeping the distance between the rows in the region of 60 cm, at least, as advised by experienced gardeners. Since the variety belongs to plants with a neutral daylight, it is permissible to grow in hotbeds with winter heating and on the balconies of apartments.

If the crop is planted in April, and the first wave of flower stalks is removed, then the crop can be harvested in early July.The very first flower stalks must be cleaned. There is a practice of using saplings for reproduction, then fruiting is avoided. The best method is the use of maternal bush for subsequent breeding. The beds for harvest and for reproduction should be done separately.

In the case of growing strawberries "Furor" in the greenhouse, remove the mustache until the middle of summer, which increases the yield.

Top dressings for culture are obligatory, and very intensive. This is necessary to maintain good yields and the very size of the berries. Top dressings are necessary both sheet, and radical - a full complex of microelements. For the winter, strawberries are covered with a special cloth and mulched. The colder the climate of the strawberry growing zone, the more carefully it is prepared for winter.

The Furor variety carries the winter quite well both in the Moscow region and in Siberia. In the northern regions, with a large snow cover, the main thing is to prevent the plants from covering under the cover in case of warming. As a heater you should not use moisture-absorbing coatings, and agrofabric should be removed when warming. In the spring, a cold wind brings danger to strawberries. It can dry the plants, so it’s worth covering them again.

If you follow these recommendations, you can achieve the stated indicators for picking berries from the bushes.

Advantages and disadvantages

The variety appeared relatively recently, but gardeners have already noted its advantages such as:

  • very strong energy of growth and fruiting, flower stalks are formed instantly;
  • good presentation - nice shape and color, excellent taste, the fruit does not shrink;
  • transportability and good keeping quality - the fruits retain the look and taste;
  • the variety is of intensive type, productivity is very high;
  • perfectly tolerates heat and continues to form flower stalks and set berries, although many varieties barely survive in this weather, let alone fruiting;
  • resistance to harmful insects and common diseases.

Of course, like any other crop, the Furor strawberry variety has the following disadvantages:

  • forms few whiskers, but it is a characteristic feature of all cultures of the neutral group; very intensive supplements will help, and if this does not work, then strawberries are propagated by dividing the bush;
  • tsvetonosa with berries adjacent to the ground, which can provoke fruit rot;
  • the need for frequent and abundant fertilizing and watering, but this is again the specificity of all varieties of this type.

      In general, the views of gardeners about this culture are positive. The yield and attractive appearance of the fruit is noted by all. And those who grow strawberries for sale, appreciate its presentation and good transportability. In the minuses, as noted above, they call reproduction problems and the need to fertilize it intensively and water it abundantly.
