Strawberry “Chamora Turusi”: variety description, planting and care
Most gardeners plant strawberries in their summer cottages.Currently, there are a huge number of different varieties of this berry. Today we will talk about strawberries "Chamora Turusi".
Characteristic
To begin, consider a detailed description of this variety of strawberries. Chamora Turusi is considered a Japanese variety, its berries ripen with a short light day. The plant has powerful and massive bushes with a large number of leaves, a lot of whiskers are formed on them. The level of winter hardiness of such strawberries is high, but at the same time its resistance to drought is low.
Fruits of the Chamora Turusi variety have a pleasant aroma of garden or forest strawberries. The average weight of each berry is about 60-70 grams. Productivity can reach 1,5 kilograms from one sapling.
Berry pulp of this variety has a bright red color. It is fleshy, dense and juicy. The shape of the strawberry fruit is round, slightly conical, with small irregularities and folds.
Duration of fruiting of this strawberry is six years. But the biggest crop of berries is harvested three years after planting in the soil. The first fruits fully ripen in mid-June, but the main stage of ripening occurs only at the end of the month.
Advantages and disadvantages
The strawberry variety Chamora Turusi boasts a number of important advantages.
- Excellent taste. The fruits of this strawberry have a sweet, pronounced taste. In addition, they differ juiciness.
- Easy care. “Chamora Turusi” is not a whimsical variety of strawberries, therefore it is enough for it to have standard dressings and timely watering for normal development.
- Persistent aroma of wild strawberry.
- High level of frost resistance. Strawberry “Chamora Turusi” will not wither even at sharp temperature drops and will bear fruit.
Despite the large list of advantages, strawberries of the Chamora Turusi variety have some drawbacks.
- Hard to endure drought. With a sharp increase in temperature, the bushes will wither and the crop will spoil.
- Requires a large area for cultivation. Strawberries of this variety are large in size, so a lot of land is needed for planting.
- Susceptibility to fungal diseases. Strawberry bushes of this variety should be pre-treated with solutions against such diseases.
How to plant?
Before planting strawberry seedlings directly, they need to be prepared. For this, the roots of the plant are soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Make it worth a day before planting.
Then the root system of strawberries is treated with a mass consisting of clay and manure. After that, thoroughly dry the seedlings. This is done within two hours.
In order to plant strawberries of the Chamora Turusi variety, you first need to find a suitable place for this. Such strawberries are grown in fertile black earths, but sandy, loamy soil types can also be suitable on the site. Most gardeners recommend planting and growing plants on slightly elevated surfaces.
Before planting, the soil should be fertilized with special nutrients. If you land on sandy lands, be sure to fertilize them with peat or prepared compost. These components will protect the soil from drying out.
If you want to plant strawberries in clay soils, then you should pre-fertilize them with river sand. This component will allow the plant's root system to develop normally. Often, a drainage layer consisting of branches is taken instead. Strawberries "Chamora Turusi" should be planted in well-lit places. At the same time do not forget that areas with plants must be protected from the wind.
Planted seedlings need a certain distance (at least 50 centimeters). This provides them with good ventilation. It is necessary in order to avoid many diseases and invasions of harmful insects. Also in this case, you can easily remove the whiskers, loosen and weed the soil.
Each strawberry seedling is placed in a hole to a depth of no more than 15 centimeters. Its root system is gently straightened and slightly covered with earth. Plant this variety in late August. If the region is characterized by too cold winters with little snow, then it is better to land at the end of spring.
If a temperate climate prevails in the region, the Chamora Turusy variety can be planted even in the autumn. Prepare the beds for planting is also better in the fall. To do this, they are carefully digged and mixed together with dolomite flour and soil.
Care features
The care of the variety includes the following procedures:
- watering;
- top dressing;
- pruning;
- pest prevention.
Watering
Watering strawberries varieties "Chamora Turusi" should be in moderation. Otherwise, the soil may become overmoistened. The first watering is recommended in late April or early May.
Water for irrigation should be warm: its temperature should be at least 15 degrees. The amount of water per bush should be 0.5 liters per week. In hot weather, water plants should be daily.
Top dressing
Do not fertilize strawberry seedlings too often, as this may harm them. In the autumn it is better to put humus or ordinary sawdust into the soil. For the same purpose, you can use limestone and bird droppings.
Pruning
Do not forget to carry out timely pruning of plants, because strawberries grow too intensively. During pruning, old and diseased mustaches and leaves are also removed. Perform such a procedure, as a rule, in August.
Prevention
Normal cultivation of strawberry seedlings is possible only if the bushes are not exposed to various parasites. To avoid this, you need to monitor the condition of the soil. It should not be too moist, because this soil is a favorable zone for various pests.
In order to prevent pests from appearing on seedlings, it is also necessary to mulch the ground regularly using sawdust. You can further treat the strawberry bushes with a solution of a fungicide or a mixture with iodine.
Diseases and pests
Strawberries of the Chamora Turusi variety, like most other varieties, are often exposed to various pests and diseases. Often plants suffer from fungal diseases. These include white and brown spot, which can severely damage the root system of seedlings.
When strawberry bushes begin to suffer from these diseases, small spots are formed on their leaf blades. To cure a berry, you need to use special fungicides. The most effective of them are "Oxy", "Horus", "Ridomil."
Often bushes "Chamora Turusi" are exposed to the larvae of May beetles and slugs. They can greatly damage the strawberries. In this case, plantings are better treated with insecticides. The most famous of them include "Decis" and "Calypso".
The most weevil can damage strawberries. Because of the activity of this parasite, lattice holes appear on the buds and leaves. Adult parasites will have to periodically be removed manually from the bushes.
Often on the berries of this variety you can see a light downy gray. In the process of development, it can be formed on the leaves. Gardeners call this a disease of gray mold. To cure it, it is worth spraying the bushes with iodine solution (5 milliliters per 10 liters of clean water).
Mustard solution (100 grams per 10 liters of water) can also be used against gray rot. Spray this liquid bushes once a week.
Some gardeners use immediately effective chemicals (Fundazol, Teldor).
This plant can also damage strawberry mites. Diseased fruits acquire a gray-brown color and are severely deformed. In order to cure strawberries from this pest, it is better to immediately use strong chemical agents ("Flyoverm", "Neoron"). Similar solutions are sprayed on the leaves and buds.
Verticillis can also harm strawberry seedlings. In this disease, the leaf blades of the bushes begin to fade and twist. Over time, small spots of red-yellow color are formed on them. Near the tuber can be seen almost black patina. Verticillosis is cured with chemicals (Benorad, Fundazol), but even such strong products cannot always completely cure seedlings and save them from death.
Fusarium also affects strawberries. Because of this disease, the leaves turn yellow and quickly fade. Mustache plants acquire a gray-brown shade. For treatment should immediately apply effective chemicals ("Benomil"). If strawberries were never cured, then the soil on which it was grown should be treated with Nitrafen.
Strawberry bushes are exposed to black root rot (rhizoctoniosis). Because of it the root system of seedlings is damaged. Brown spots are formed on them, the sheet plates quickly dry and fall off. To fight the disease is impossible. You can only conduct regular preventive spraying with special solutions.
Assembly and storage
Collecting and carrying strawberries "Chamora Turusi" is easy. After all, the berries can remain fresh and dense for a long time. You can keep the fruit in a few weeks. Berries of this variety are often used for making jam, jam and just for canning. It is recommended to harvest strawberries early in the morning or in the evening in dry weather.
Breeding
Strawberry “Chamora Turusi” can breed in several ways:
- antennae;
- seeds;
- by dividing the bush.
Antennae
This method is considered the easiest. From the plant (it must necessarily reach the age of three) select some of the strongest and densest mustache. They can be simply drowned in the ground with a curved wire. In this case, the shoot will take root in a month, after which it is transplanted into the soil.
It is possible to cut off the selected antennae and place them in a container with a special solution to stimulate the growth of the root system. In this case, they will take root in 2 or 3 weeks. After that, they can be planted on the site.
Seeds
This method is considered the most time consuming and laborious. To do this, select the largest fruits. The pulp with seeds is separated from them and all this is dried for a long time.
The selected material is placed in a separate container with a universal primer. Later peat and humus are added there. All this is covered with a lid.
The cup with the soaked seeds is placed in the refrigerator for two weeks. Then the container is sent to the window sill. Regularly its contents should be sprayed with clean water. Wait until at least a couple of young leaves are formed. After that, transplant the plant in a separate pot.
When a small seedling in a pot will have 4-6 leaves, it must be carefully removed from the container. Then it can already be transplanted into the open ground.
By dividing the bush
With this breeding, you must choose a whole strawberry bush. He must be completely healthy. It is divided into 3-4 equal parts.
Remember that each part must have at least 5-6 young leaves. The fragment root must be at least five centimeters long. Separated plants are planted in the open ground immediately after the procedure. At the same time it is necessary to apply fertilizer to the soil.
Reviews of summer residents
Many gardeners have left positive feedback on strawberries "Chamora Turusi". So, some of them noted a good frost resistance of the variety. Even with strong frosts, the seedlings did not deteriorate and were able to give a good harvest.
Most gardeners have noticed that this variety of berries ripens quickly, unlike many other varieties of strawberries. The fruits of the plant grow large and juicy. The taste of this berry, according to gardeners, is very high.
Some gardeners spoke about high yields. With proper care, it can be 1-1.5 kilograms per bush.With insufficient watering indicator may fall slightly, but the berries themselves will be sweeter and tastier.
