Cook strawberry compote for the winter
Compote - a drink loved since childhood. It is pleasant to enjoy a fruit drink on a hot summer day and on a cold winter evening.One of the most famous and tasty is strawberry compote. Most often, this delicacy is made from Victoria variety berries. Not many people know, but there are a large number of variations of cooking strawberry compote. It can be cooked with the addition of orange, red currant, mint, raspberry and even apricot.
The benefits and harm of strawberries
Strawberries have a large number of beneficial properties, which are guaranteed by useful substances and elements that are included in its composition. It is rich in iron, magnesium, sodium, silicon, zinc, copper. And also it contains vitamins and antioxidants, fiber.
At the same time, it should be remembered that strawberry compote should be used with caution to people who have problems with the digestive system and diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, people with individual intolerance and allergies, as well as people suffering from hypertension and kidney disease.
Standard recipe
Strawberry compote is a fairly simple drink. He can cook it not only for experienced hostesses, but also for beginners in cooking. To make a fruit drink (the proportions are for one 3-liter jar), you will need 300 g of fresh (or frozen) strawberries and 300 g of granulated sugar. Preparation consists of several stages.
- It should be noted that without sterilization jars is indispensable. Banks can be sterilized over steam, in boiling water, in an electric oven, in a microwave, in a dishwasher, in potassium permanganate.
- While the bank is being sterilized, it is necessary to tackle the berries. They need to be thoroughly washed, dried and bruised: only ripe, elastic berries should get into the compote.
- Next, put the berries in a sterilized jar, then pour boiling water over the strawberries and leave to stand for 30–40 minutes.
- The next step is to prepare the syrup. To do this, place the granulated sugar in an enamel container, pour the water out of a jar of strawberries. The mixture should be sent to the stove and boil until sugar is completely dissolved.
- When the syrup is ready, pour it into a jar of strawberries and roll it up. After that, the jar of compote must be turned upside down and covered with a warm blanket. In this state, the drink should be left for 24 hours.
After this compote can be sent to storage in the cellar or in the attic.
With orange and mint
To diversify the usual taste of strawberry compote for a child, you can add orange and mint. To prepare the original refreshing drink you need to take:
- 300 grams of strawberries;
- 200 grams of granulated sugar;
- half an orange;
- 2 l of purified water;
- a few sprigs of mint.
We put strawberries in a 3-liter jar, put orange and mint. Then pour boiling water into the jar, cover it with a lid and leave to infuse for 40–60 minutes. Further, by analogy with the previous recipe, we make a syrup: pour water from a jar of fruit into a saucepan, add sugar to it. We wait until the syrup boils, and then pour it back to the berries (for convenience, the syrup can be prepared in a slow cooker). At the end of the preparation we roll up the can - and the compote is ready.
With currants and raspberries
Compote-fruit platter under the force to make each hostess. This drink has a beautiful rich color and many useful properties. For cooking is useful:
- 200 grams of strawberries;
- 100 g of red currant;
- 100 g raspberries;
- 3 liters of water;
- 8 tablespoons of sugar.

- 300 grams of strawberries;
- 200 g of sugar;
- 3 liters of water;
- 1 teaspoon citric acid.
The recipe of this drink is similar to the previous one. Berries are placed in a jar and pour boiling water. Leave the jar insist. Then from the water, drained from the strawberries, and sugar we prepare a syrup, with which we pour the berries. There also add citric acid, then roll up the jars.
Useful tips
Before cooking compote, review some of the subtleties:
- if you stick to a diet, take care of your body shape, or suffer from diabetes, you can exclude sugar from recipes;
- sterilized jars for compote should be at least 35 minutes;
- The berries used for making compote are best processed immediately after purchase (or after picking from the garden).
