How to prepare garlic extract for spraying plants against pests?
Experienced gardeners know - the less chemistry in the garden, the healthier the crop and the environment. However, the issue of pest control is extremely acute, traditional means of prevention does not always help, and somehow it is necessary to save the plants. And here comes to the aid of undeservedly forgotten natural remedy - garlic tincture.
Garlic - a culture, without which home farms rarely do. This vegetable of the onion family is commonly used in cooking as a spice.
Efficiency
Fresh garlic on the table is an excellent prevention of colds and viral diseases of a person. But few people think that in the same way garlic is able to cope with plant bacteria. That is, in fact, garlic is a natural insecticide - a drug for the destruction of pests.
The composition of this spicy vegetable includes:
- phytoncides and diallyl sulfide - substances that have a toxic effect on microbes;
- essential oils, enveloping and disinfecting the treated surface.
Stinging garlic tincture is used against various types of insects and pathogenic bacteria. Such a garden natural insecticide effectively fights against the invasion of ants and slugs, with cabbage butterflies, wood-sawing larvae. Garlic shows a particularly high result in the fight against aphids. Garlic is treated with the surface of the stem and leaves, poured under the root, planted garlic cloves among other cultures.
Advantages and disadvantages
We list the main advantages of this tool.
- Environmental friendliness. Garlic tinctures are natural raw materials and safe for humans, domestic animals and the plants themselves. There is no need to meet the deadlines after processing the fruit, so that the chemicals will evaporate.
- Efficiency. Chemicals require investment and sometimes considerable. Garlic culture grows in almost every area, and if not, then it will be quite inexpensive to buy a garlic head for planting.
- Ease of preparation. This factor is especially good for novice gardeners and summer residents who come from the city for the weekend. The technology of preparation consists in collecting raw materials, insisting in water and filtering.
- Lack of adaptation of pests. You can often hear criticism of this or that drug, that it is not very effective. The fact is that insects and bacteria are able to adapt to chemical toxins. Plant solutions do not cause such addiction, and therefore all season safely operate.
Among the shortcomings of the natural insecticide are several rather noticeable factors.
- Garlic is effective in the early stages of culture damage. More toxic chemicals will have to be fought with neglected areas.
- Garlic film against flying and crawling pests is effective only before the rain. Then you should again spray the plants.
- The simplicity of garlic tinctures applies only to the method of preparation, but with the dosage should be extremely careful. Exceeding the norm and concentration can easily destroy the landing.
Proven recipes
To prepare the medicine, they use both the garlic heads themselves and the garlic husks, stalks and arrows. But, like any drug, garlic tinctures should be used carefully so as not to harm the plant. For each type of parasite and their host crops, the dosage and proportion of tinctures will vary.
- Solanaceae and phytophthora. The main enemy of growing tomatoes, bell peppers and eggplants in regions with a cool climate is late blight. Spraying garlic tincture over the entire planting area will prevent the development of spores of the disease-causing fungus. To make this, 200 g of crushed arrows of garlic pour 10 liters of water (the water temperature should be warm, but not exceed 40 degrees). It is better to prepare the solution in the evening, it will be ready for morning processing. Water is filtered through cheesecloth and poured into a spray bottle.
- Shrubs and aphids. From infestations affecting fruit bushes, an infusion of garlic cloves helps well. 200 g of crushed slices are placed in a liter jar of warm water, covered with a lid and left in a dark place for 5 days. After settling and straining the concentrate is ready for use. It is diluted at the rate of 100 ml per 5 l of pure water and spray the damaged plants.
- Cabbage and caterpillars, spider mite. The result is achieved in 2-3 treatments at intervals of 3 days. The leaves and stems of dandelion pour water at the rate of 2 kg per bucket of water. Stand a couple of days and a few hours before processing, add a glass of grated garlic cloves to the bucket. Strain and spray the plants.
- Potato and Colorado potato beetle. Potato pests adapt very quickly to all chemicals, so garlic is indispensable in combating them. The solution is prepared from celandine (1.5 kg) and 5-6 large heads of garlic, crushed with a rolling pin. Ingredients bucket filled with hot water and infused for a week. After straining the solution, spray the potato bushes and the soil around them. The procedure is carried out every week.
- Ant nests. From these seemingly useful insects sometimes have to get rid of by any means, but do not destroy them. In the fight against ants, the raw materials left after the infusion of garlic solutions (cake) are perfect. It should be laid out around the base of the bushes and fruit trees.
If the ants have settled among the beds of vegetables, simply put a piece of tincture waste on the top of the anthill or in the part where their largest accumulation. Insects urgently change their place of residence as far as possible from your site.
