Cherry "Iput": description of the variety and features of cultivation

 Cherry Iput: description of the variety and peculiarities of cultivation

Usually, cherries are associated with a warm southern region of growth.But today, thanks to the efforts of breeders, this tree can be grown in the north of Russia, where the climate is more severe. An example of such a plant is considered to be cold-resistant and quite fruitful cherry “Iput”, which has already managed to catch the fancy of many gardeners.

Characteristic variety

The height of the cherry tree Iput usually reaches three and a half meters. But in the opinion of gardeners there are exceptions - these are plants of this variety that grow to five meters. Cherry has a broad crown, thick green foliage. The lower part of its trunk can reach a diameter of up to five meters. The period of fruiting “Iputu” occurs only four or five years after landing in the ground. A tree is characterized by a yield of up to thirty kilograms from one individual, but under good conditions and proper care, fifty can be collected.

This variety was developed for cultivation in central Russia, so it is distinguished from others by good frost resistance. Flower plant buds can withstand up to thirty degrees of frost. Constant temperature drops, that is, alternating frost and thaw, can harm a tree. In such cases, the kidneys die.

Cherry begins its flowering in mid-May. This variety is considered early maturing, but it ripens in central Russia by mid-June. The tree is stable and brings good yields every year. Berries grow in a bundle, in which there are four units. After full maturity, they are well and quickly removed from the stem.

According to the creators of the variety, “Iput” is a self-pollinating plant. But a better harvest can be achieved when a pollinator is present nearby, for example, the Bryansk Pink cherry or Ovstuzhenka. "Iput" is also an excellent pollinator for any other trees of this species.

This sweet cherry is characterized by large berries that have an unusual heart-shaped shape. Each can weigh from five to nine grams. The ripened fruit has a dark red skin, and already fully ripe - black. Fastening berries occurs with the help of thick and short stalks. The bones of a small cherry are small and egg-shaped, they are difficult to separate from the soft part. With abundant humidity and constant rain, the fruits of the Iputi can crack.

The flesh of the berries is dark red, it has an average density and juiciness. The taste of the fruit is tender and sweet with a barely perceptible bitterness. Each ripe berry contains more than fifteen percent of the dry matter, eleven is fructose, sucrose and glucose, as well as more than half-percent acid. Of the many known varieties of sweet cherries, this one contains the greatest amount of vitamin C. The fruits of the tree are not only consumed in torn form, but can also be processed into juice, compote or jam.

Advantages of the Iput variety:

  • stable yields;
  • early ripening sweet cherry;
  • berries are small and very tasty;
  • frost resistance of buds and plants in general;
  • resistance to diseases and parasite attacks.

Disadvantages:

  • late in the fruiting phase after the fourth year of growth;
  • needs the presence of a pollinator nearby;
  • the pulp of the berry is poorly separated from the bone;
  • at high humidity the fruits crack and rot.

    Cherry "Iput" has become a favorite delicacy in many families.

    First of all, it is a tasty berry, but also when consumed, it provides considerable benefits to the human body:

    • normalizes pressure;
    • normalizes renal and hepatic activity;
    • relieves pain in rheumatism, gout;
    • it is recommended for anemia, as it contains iron;
    • useful for constipation and problems with the gastrointestinal tract;
    • reduces nervous tension, relieves depression and insomnia.

    The choice of location and seedling

    If Iutut cherry was chosen for planting at the site, then due attention should be paid to the choice of location and seedling.The ideal option would be to buy a sapling right before planting it in the ground. A young plant should be about 0.5 meters in height and not younger than two years old.

    Signs of a healthy seedling:

    • well developed crown and root system;
    • the presence of three or four branches, which have a length of 0.35 meters;
    • smooth bark without blistering and spots;
    • barrel with a diameter of 1.6 cm and no less.

    It is not recommended to use a plant that has a wrinkled bark. Such a plant is strongly dried and will not take root in the new site.

      After buying a tree, its roots should be wrapped in a damp cloth. Thus, the seedling will easily survive the transportation.

      Responsible work is the choice of a place for planting a seedling. Preference is given to a plot with good drainage and loose soil. An excellent option would be an area that is well lit, has loamy soil and an acidity of at least 5.5. It is worth avoiding places in which moisture stagnates and there are permanent flooding. The depth at which the groundwater is deposited should not be closer than two meters.

      For the growth of sweet cherry, a gentle hill or the south of the yard is well suited, which is protected from the cold wind by outbuildings. The plot area should be small, since pollinating trees should also grow nearby.

      Landing

      Planted "Iput" need in the spring. If you do this in the autumn, the sapling may freeze. Autumn planting of cherry is possible only in the southern regions. For the future of the tree, you need to make a low hill about fifty centimeters. This procedure is necessary to prevent root system flooding. Installation of drainage grooves will save the tree during floods and heavy rains.

      Do not forget that the correct process of planting a tree is a guarantee of its normal growth.

      Soil preparation should be done in the following way:

      • a pit is dug, which has a diameter of 0.7 meters and a depth of 0.6 meters;
      • 3 buckets of manure, which is rotten, should be mixed with wood ash in the amount of 0.5 kg, add 60 grams of potassium sulphide and the same amount of phosphate rock to them;
      • the mixture in the amount of two thirds must be mixed with the ground and dig;
      • other fertilizers should be used at the end of the landing.

        The process of planting young seedlings in the ground:

        • plant roots should be evenly distributed at the bottom of the hole;
        • pour the previously prepared mixture;
        • pour water in the amount of one bucket;
        • of the remaining one third of the mixture of mineral fertilizers, it is necessary to form a hill;
        • near the seedling it is necessary to mount a wooden peg and make a tree tying;
        • around the hill it is worth digging a ring for watering, and after completion of planting pour 1 bucket of water into it.

        Care

        The process of caring for the cherry tree is a systematic pruning, watering, feeding and preparing for the winter period.

        It is possible to start pruning "Iputi" in the springtime along with the planting of a seedling. The young trunk is cut at a height of 0.5 meters to achieve tillering. In the second year of life, a branch should be rationed and leave about five of them most capable of survival. One branch should grow strictly in an upright position as a central conductor, it should be shortened by about a third. The remaining bend to form the initial tier.

        For such procedures, you can apply stretch marks or clothespins. The length of each side shoot should also be shortened by about a third to increase branching. When cutting cherry is carried out, do not forget that the slices need to be processed with green paint and garden pitch after drying. Cutting branches is carried out closer to the trunk, so as not to leave hemp.

        By the third year of life, the time comes for the formation of branches of the second tier. In this case, it is worth cutting out the least strong and those that grow to the center of the crown.It costs about five branches without the presence of a central one, thus forming a bowl. Be sure to ensure that the second tier of branches does not become longer than the original. To avoid this, the branches are shortened.

        Further pruning should be done annually. Thanks to it, growing shoots are shortened and thinned. Such a process contributes to the awakening of sleeping buds and their even distribution. If branches are seen that grow inward or rub against neighboring ones, then they should be cut. Particularly important is the removal of processes that form below vaccinations. If you ignore the development of such a shoot, the plant itself may soon die.

        Watering the sweet cherry of this variety is only in dry weather. It is best to do this when the berries are poured and ripen.

        Moisture should not be in excess. Maintain the soil in a state of moderate moisture by using mulching. In this situation, drip irrigation will be appropriate. After the crop is harvested, the plant does not need watering.

        Fertilizing a tree before the beginning of the fruiting period may be limited to ash of a deciduous tree. To carry out the procedure is at the beginning of spring, after the snow has gone. After the plant has flowered, as well as at the moment of fruiting, each tree should be fertilized with one bucket of humus in the form of compost, a glass of bone meal and a glass of ash. By the beginning of the summer period, the soil under the plant needs to be mulched with grass, which fermented.

        The sweet cherry circle also needs to be looked after. Weeds should not be present at this place. The radius of the trunk circle equals the perimeter of the crown of the tree. Digging the soil under the plant should be careful and deeper than fifteen centimeters. But the best option would be the usual loosening using a flat-cutter, such a process will not be able to damage the root system.

        Favorably on the growth and development of "Iputu" will affect the combination of mulch and ground cover plants. The latter should be planted at a distance of 0.4 meters from the trunk of the tree. Planting undersized marigolds, nasturtiums, calendula will be useful, but they must be cleaned in the fall. With the onset of spring, mulch and plant residues should be eliminated, so the root system will thaw out and warm up faster. And also at this time it is necessary to loosen the soil to raise pests to the surface.

        In autumn and spring, the cherry tree must be whitewashed with a mixture of lime and copper sulfate. Trees that are less than six years old, whitewashing is strictly prohibited. Barrels can be secured by spraying with Bordeaux liquid and wrapping a white sack cloth. This method of shelter promotes the penetration of air and at the same time does not retain moisture, it also serves as an excellent protection against frost. With the onset of spring, the wrapper should be removed and the trunks of the trees re-sprayed with Bordeaux liquid.

        This sort of sweet cherry is partially self-fertile.

        In order to ensure a normal start, you can use the following methods:

        • artificial pollination;
        • planting near the tree-pollinator.

        Diseases and pests

        "Iput", like other varieties of cherries, is exposed to diseases and attacks of pests.

        The tree most often suffers from several diseases.

        • Moniliozom. This disease is the most harmful, its main manifestation is the drying of branches, flowers, early falling of leaves and rotting of berries.
        • Coccomycosis. It is a type of fungal disease that affects the leaves of a plant. They begin to appear spots of brown color, which eventually grow.
        • Holey spot. With the development of the disease, the shoot is covered with gum, and the berries dry up.
        • Brown spotting, in which on the sheet you can notice the appearance of brown spots, due to the formation of which it falls.
        • Fruit rot. On the tree there are spots with a brown tint, which grow, penetrate the fruit.
        • Powdery mildewThis infection is expressed in the white coating of flowers, leaves and petioles, which eventually turn yellow.

        If the signs of the above diseases are found on the cherry tree, then it is urgent to make spraying the tree “Horus” with the addition of soap. The procedure should be carried out carefully, especially when processing the inside of the leaves. After harvesting, the affected leaves should be harvested and destroyed so as not to spread the disease.

        In order not to attack a tree, black aphids, you need to destroy all the anthills that are nearby. Berry trees are often attacked by birds in whole flocks, in a matter of days they can destroy the harvest. To do this, it is recommended to tighten the network on the tree, only this way it is possible to protect the fruits from annoying consumers.

        If a thistle was seen on the cherry, and she has already managed to lay eggs in the fruit pulp, then it must be urgently destroyed. This is done through the use of "Inta-vira", as well as the collection of all the fallen affected fruits and their instillation to a depth of 0.5 meters. Such a pest, like a cherry trubkovert, loves to eat buds, flowers and ovaries. Spraying the drug "Aktara" rid the tree of the parasite.

        Collection and storage

        Fruit ripening on the Iput cherry tree takes place in the second half of June. Massively pluck them when it reaches a dark color. If the stem has dried, the harvest is missed, so it is worth monitoring. Removing from the branches should be careful, do not throw berries, they need to be carefully placed in the container. Damaged and burst units are best folded separately.

        Picking berries is quite convenient, as they are located on a branch in the form of a bunch. Fruits that are not collected for processing, should be plucked from the stems, so their shelf life will be longer. Unfortunately, "Iput" is not characterized by a long period of storage of berries, otherwise you can notice the wateriness and loss of taste in cherries. About five days the fruit can be kept in the refrigerator. And it is better to freeze or cook the preservation of berries.

        At room temperature, sweet cherry will last no more than three to four hours. In the process of processing and freezing the berries do not lose their beneficial properties and taste.

        According to reviews of gardeners, it is clear that the variety of Iput cherry is really good.

        Many liked it for having the following characteristics:

        • unpretentiousness;
        • frost resistance;
        • good yield;
        • delicious berries.

        This sort of sweet cherry is a real supply of vitamins A, C, E, PP. To plant such a tree on your site is not difficult, because you can provide yourself with a tasty delicacy for many years. It's no secret that a natural berry is much nicer and more beneficial than its artificial substitute. Do not be afraid of difficulties in growing cherries, the main thing is to have a great desire, not to be lazy, try to take care of the plant as best you can, and then it will respond to you in return.
